Ron Jans impressed by PSV’s stronghold: “I hope he also plays well at the World Cup.”
1 min readAfter last weekend, Ron Jans' coaching career is over. At the age of 67, Jans is saying goodbye to professional football after, among other roles, having been a coach at FC Groningen, sc Heerenveen, PEC Zwolle and FC Utrecht.
At the aforementioned club, Jans was appointed in October 2023 when the Domstedelingen were almost at the very bottom of the Eredivisie. Since the appointment of the native from Zwolle, FC Utrecht has experienced a good period and in the first year play-offs for European football were reached, in which Jans’ team had to bow in the final to Go Ahead Eagles.
Last season, Jans was long in contention with FC Utrecht for a ticket in the (qualifying round) of the Champions League, but had to see Ajax finish second and Feyenoord finish third. This season, Jans with the club from Utrecht once again reached the final of the play-offs for European football, and in the final Ajax proved too strong on penalties.
At the Eredivisie gala, Jans was also present and was asked about the coach's favorite player this season. ''That has been the case with us too, but Saibari is number one for me. If you look at how he has developed, and he has decided so many matches, including big games... I hope he also plays a good World Cup'', Jans tells Voetbal International.

Jans is also more than pleased with the development of Saibari; the coach, who has since retired, sees the PSV player also getting involved in England. ''But he has developed really well. I hope he can be an example of a player who goes from the Eredivisie to a major competition. Because I expect he will be interesting for the Premier League or elsewhere. If I were a coach, I would certainly be interested'', said Jans.

Die quote "Saibari is voor mij de nummer één" zegt genoeg. Tbh ik vind dat hij dit seizoen echt beslissend is geweest, niet alleen talentvol. Als Jans zelfs al praat over Premier League interesse, dan is het geen toeval.
Jans is spot on that Saibari has that "decides big matches" impact, but lets not pretend the WK alone will define it. He needs consistency and better end product, otherwise England will use him as rotation.
i mean saai injuries aside, Saibari has actually grown so much this year. If Jans thinks he could be Premier League material, thats not just hype imo. Also that line about examples from the Eredivisie... PSV always produces, lets gooo 🔥⚽
Ron Jans is duidelijk onder de indruk van Saibari, en eerlijk is eerlijk: dat interview voelt als een compliment dat je echt kan voelen. Als Saibari zo doorpakt, dan is een WK erna gewoon een extra springplank. 💯⚽
Love the respect Ron Jans shows to Saibari. "Ik hoop dat hij ook een goed WK gaat spelen" is exactly the mindset we need, and if he keeps deciding big games, a PL move feels logical.
"If I were a coach, I would certainly be interested" ... that line hits, because that is exactly what we are all thinking watching Saibari. Still, i hope PSV gets paid and doesnt let him go too early. Otherwise it feels like a repeat story. 🙄
Jans hoping he does well at the World Cup is nice, but tbh i care more about PSV making him peak at least through the playoffs. Saibari has that match-winning mentality, not just highlight reels. 🔥
Ron Jans saying Saibari is number one is wild but fair, the development has been real. If he keeps that level, he will get snapped up by a Premier League club. 👀
