Pure Clubman: “The appreciation I get from many players is wonderful.”
1 min readAt PSV as well, the transfer summer has already gotten underway, and last Monday Sven Mijnans was introduced as PSV’s first summer signing. Mijnans was welcomed by none other than Mart van den Heuvel.
Van den Heuvel, now 73 years old, has already been in the service of PSV for 47 years. Van den Heuvel was for many years the club’s permanent caretaker and is now a player liaison.
In conversation with Omroep Brabant, the clubman lets it be known that he also takes care of almost everything for new players. ''I pick up a new player from the airport and help them with everything, right up to finding a place to live. The appreciation I get from many players is wonderful'', says Van den Heuvel in the PSV podcast Transferzomer.
''I am part of the 'familycare', so I am also responsible for making sure that the woman, children, and dog settle in Eindhoven as well as possible. Because if the woman is happy, then the player often is too. Sometimes through a short stay while we haven't found a permanent home yet,'' continues the player guide.
According to the 73-year-old clubman, the work he is doing now is the most normal thing in the world. According to Van den Heuvel, you can’t leave new footballers to their fate.
In doing so, he also draws a comparison between the Netherlands and England. ''In England, they simply say that you have to be in the hospital at twelve o'clock; then you sign, and they say: figure it out yourself. I couldn't do that'', Van den Heuvel said.

Zijn reactie over Engeland snap ik wel, maar ik hoop dat PSV ondertussen ook sportief snel schakelt. Zorg en begeleiding zijn top, maar uiteindelijk moet Mijnans ook direct impact maken. 💯
"Ik haal een nieuwe speler op van het vliegveld" ... bruh, thats peak clubcultuur. Volgens mij is Sven Mijnans nu al met de juiste vibe binnengekomen. 🚀
Tbh dit soort mensen maken een transferperiode pas echt soepel. Je ziet het niet op het veld, maar die woning, hond en familie planning helpt meer dan een extra looptraining. 👀
Oke fair, maar ik hoop dat dit soort familycare ook samengaat met sportieve duidelijkheid. spelers mogen niet alleen comfortabel zijn, ze moeten ook gewoon krijgen waar ze voor komen, anders voelt het mid.
"De waardering die ik van veel spelers krijg vind ik prachtig" gewoon kippenvel. Dit is waarom PSV meer is dan voetbal, dit is echt begeleiding als onderdeel van het team ❤️
De vergelijking met Engeland is wel erg herkenbaar, maar tbh zou je denken dat clubs daar ook gewoon support regelen. Toch respect dat PSV dat echt zo persoonlijk maakt 👏

i mean, dit is geen hype maar pure organisatie. Ik vind het wel bizar dat het in Engeland blijkbaar zo gaat met "zoek het maar uit"... bij ons is dat echt niet de mentaliteit.
Respect voor Mart van den Heuvel, die "familycare" klinkt echt zoals een PSV-familie hoort te zijn. 🔥 Als je als speler ook je gezin en huis geregeld krijgt, praat je mentaal meteen makkelijker mee.
