Promising player in his prime continues with what he started last season, facing Royal Antwerp FC

1 min read

PSV technically started the season, from a match perspective, with a training match against Royal Antwerp FC. A number of important things stood out.

That is how the French striker Pléa made his comeback, and it turned out that Ruben van Bommel still was not quite ready to start making minutes. However, Van Bommel does seem likely to be able to get playing time in the short term after his long rehabilitation. The level that Noah Fernandez managed to achieve can be called promising, because the youthful Belgian made a strong impression. Fernandez scored, but he also handed out beautiful passes and, with some dribbling maneuvers, regularly left his opponents looking foolish.

The young Belgian continues with what he started last season as well. Against Royal Antwerp FC, he drew 1-1 in the first friendly of the season.

The first minutes were for PSV because Couhaib Driouech was immediately threatening toward goal, but the goalkeeper managed to save his attempt. A little later, Driouech was again dangerous, but this time his effort went into the side netting. After more than a quarter of an hour, Antwerp also got a chance, but Nick Olij didn’t need to intervene. The Belgian visitors, however, made little impression in the first half.

After his return from injury, Alassane Pléa made his comeback after a long period on the sidelines. Joey Veerman also came on. After more than an hour, Royal Antwerp FC drew level. PSV is playing in the preseason against the Polish club Raków and the Spanish side Villarreal. There are also friendly matches against city rivals FC Eindhoven. On 2 August, PSV will play the Johan Cruijff Shield against AZ.
