Progression to the first selection | These players are on their way to PSV 1 for the 2026–2027 season
1 min readWithin the club and in the club management, Stijn Schaars is taken very seriously. Managing director Marcel Brands believes that Schaars will be considered in the future to become the head coach of PSV 1.
For the time being, Schaars is the head coach of Jong PSV, and it suits him very well. Schaars believes that several players from the current Jong PSV squad can make the step up to the first team next season. Schaars says this in an interview with FCUpdate.
"PSV still aims to have about a third of the A-team made up of homegrown players, so between seven and nine names", wrote Rik Elfrink recently. "Coach Peter Bosz has been more positive in the past period than last year about a number of talents who are now making their way in the youth academy. Last year, Bosz sometimes faced criticism because he did not always give Isaac Babadi and Tygo Land the chance."
"It seems that the last two players still need to be around a bit longer to be eligible for a permanent spot in PSV 1, if that ever happens," he continues. "Land is now in Groningen in a good phase."

Peter Bosz has already added a player from his own ranks to the squad with midfielder Noah Fernandez. Players such as Mauro Júnior, Ismael Saibari, Niek Schiks and Armando Obispo also come through the club academy at De Herdgang.
"Jim Koller and Jordy Bawuah now also have to prove themselves and can take a next step at PSV, provided they meet the requirements. In the run-up to the new season, some players may join again there, such as forward Amir Bouhamdi", writes the PSV watcher.
Which players are eligible to move up to PSV 1? "That is always difficult. In the short term, we have a number of midfielders who could be eligible. There is potential there. I also think we have a central defender who could be one. And we have young strikers who can already quickly make the step up," says Schaars, without naming names.
Jordy Bawuah (19) and Jim Koller (19) recently already made their debuts in the first team of PSV. Souleymane Sidibe (19) this year played the most minutes in midfield for Jong PSV. Just like Fernandez, Joël van den Berg and Fabien Meriën in recent months have also been part of the first team.

Imo this is where PSV need a bit more edge in the final third. The chances are there, but the decision making feels a touch too safe. Please, give me one direct run and a cutback, please. 🤬
"They need to be brave inside the box." Agreed, but we also need the right timing. If Saibari or Til dashes in too early, we end up crossing into nothing and its just wasted pressure.
No way we can pretend the defence is fully sorted yet. The article mentions improvement, but i saw the same late positioning issues again, especially when we chase the second ball 🤡
Dont agree with the quote about being patient, because we were patient last time and it turned into 70 minutes of crossing. We need more direct runs behind, and let the striker pin their center-backs. 💯
Solid point about the 10-space between lines. That zone is where we look best, when the passer is brave and the runner actually attacks the gap 👀
"keeping it simple" is only good if we move the ball forward fast. When the ball slows down, it goes from controlled to boring, and opposing counters start getting scary. 🔥
Noni Madueke getting praised is fair, but i want him to be more consistent with the final ball. The dribbles are fire, yet we still waste chances in those 1v1 moments 🚀
Goal!! If our 8 finds that pocket between the lines early, the whole match opens up. Cant let them settle, quick one-two and then press again. 🚀
It was a good setup, but tbh the defensive structure still feels slightly shaky in transition. We need more cover behind the 8 when the 10 pushes forward. Still, the attacking patterns looked promising, especially on the right side.
🔥🔥 We are at our best when the ball moves fast, and that transition was pure fire. Get the second man running into the box earlier and this lineup becomes scary. Lekker PSV! 👏
Got to say, the tactical setup in the article made sense. With the fullbacks stepping up, we finally had width without losing control. Still, idk if the winger tracked back enough... 🙄
"psv inside" makes me smile but the big question is who actually holds the line when the winger cuts in. tbh if that center-back steps up without cover, our counters die. 🤡
That quote about 'keeping it simple' sounds nice... but it better not turn into sideways passing for 70 minutes. We need vertical runs, otherwise teams sit in and punish us. 💀
"Inside PSV" talking about the midfield balance makes sense, but tbh we still look too open in transition when the fullbacks jump forward. Need a clearer cover role, otherwise the wing counters will keep hurting us 💀
Bruh, i dont buy the whole "tactical evolution" talk. If the winger keeps drifting inside with no overlap threat, it just funnels the ball to the same area. That is mid-table logic, not PSV level.
If PSV really wants to press like the article says, then Sangaré has to be the trigger man. Otherwise we win the ball high for like 5 minutes and then it turns into chaos again 🔥
If PSV really want to dominate, the midfield has to press better than this. Right now we look like we react too late, and that kills the tempo, imo. 👀⚽
I like the idea, but i still think the pressing triggers are too late. When X gets half a yard too much, you can see the whole shape stretch. We need intensity from minute 1 or it will be the same story again. 🔥
"PSV Inside" has been saying the same thing, but seeing it with my own eyes is different 😂. The pressing trigger has to be sharper, especially when the fullback gets dragged out. Right now we look 1 step late.
If PSV play with that higher line again, i swear teams will knife through the channels. Luuk de Jong as the pivot is fine, but we need the midfield to step up with him. Otherwise it becomes a counter-attack highlight reel for the opponent.
