NOS commentators advise FC Twente for clash with PSV
1 min readFor FC Twente, in the last league match visiting PSV, a lot is at stake. The team of John van den Brom is playing for the third place that gives access to the Champions League preliminary round.
Last weekend, the Tukkers secured third place after a 4-0 victory over Sparta Rotterdam and defeats for their rivals NEC at FC Groningen (2-1) and Ajax at home against FC Utrecht (1-2). With a win next Sunday in the Philips Stadium against league champions PSV, FC Twente will play in the Champions League qualifying rounds for sure next season.
With any other result against PSV, the team from Enschede must look at the results of NEC at home against Go Ahead Eagles and Ajax on the road at sc Heerenveen. According to NOS commentator Jeroen Grueter, the team of John van den Brom must come out fighting in Eindhoven.
''If FC Twente is going to really go for it for the first ten minutes at the very start. Because the players of PSV naturally just want to take a nice holiday. They have absolutely no desire for it. FC Twente just has to go all in. On Pepi, on Perišić, all players who want to go to the World Cup'', says Grueter in the NOS Voetbalpodcast.
Table companion and colleague commentator Jan Roelfs shares Grueter's opinion. ''That naturally goes around in those heads. That is indeed the best tactic'', said Roelfs.
After that, Jeroen Elshoff falls in on the form in which Ivan Perisic is currently. ''But have you seen Perišić in the last few weeks, when it was actually already kind of over? He doesn't pretend it's not about anything anymore. I just have the idea that he takes every little match seriously'', thinks Elshoff.
Despite this, Grueter thinks that this is still the best approach for the people from Twente. ''Such a last match is really different, with a World Cup coming up. And then still being able to go on holiday for a little while. You don't have the desire to do that with a sprained ankle'', the commentator concludes.

Ik snap die tactiek wel, maar die ondertoon "PSV wil op vakantie" voelt me toch gek. PSV speelt om iets, dus ik verwacht juist felle reactie na die eerste tien minuten. Op Pepi en Perišić pressen kan werken, maar ze moeten ook achterin scherp blijven.
Perisic in topvorm vind ik vooral irritant voor Twente, want hij hoeft geen hoofdrol te spelen om alsnog alles gevaarlijk te maken. Als hij echt serieus elke wedstrijd oppakt zoals ze zeggen, dan gaat PSV dat eerste kwartier gewoon overleven en daarna versnellen. 🔥
"Dat is inderdaad de beste tactiek" bruh, beste tactiek om vroeg op een counterspektakel te trappen?😂 Ik hoop dat PSV Twente dwingt om vroeg kansen weg te geven, want als die wedstrijd open gaat wordt het snel onze show.
Perišić heeft de laatste weken echt niet het gevoel van "het is al gespeeld". Maar die Twente-aanpak met druk op Pepi en Perišić is ook een dubbelrand, want als PSV één keer counters goed uitrolt, valt hun plan ineens uit elkaar. Na die 0-1 of 1-1 wordt het pas echt spannend, ngl.
"Dat gaat natuurlijk rond in die hoofden" ... ja, bij Twente misschien. Maar bij PSV is het hele seizoen juist geweest om dit soort wedstrijden te winnen. Als Pepi en Perišić elke bal moeten voelen, dan ga ik voor snelle omschakelingen. 👀
Twente dat zegt "in die eerste tien minuten flink kleunen" is echt zo'n plan dat tegen PSV vaak brandhout is. Als wij rustig blijven staan en ze uit hun ritme halen, krijgen ze juist stress op die Perisic/ Pepi momenten. Zeker als PSV die WK-motivatie van Twente niet laat domineren.
Tbh snap ik het, PSV-voetbal moet "mooi meegenomen" worden bij een vakantie-mindset. Maar roepen dat wij geen zin hebben klopt niet, zeker met Perišić op scherp. Ik ben benieuwd of Twente deze tactiek echt kan volhouden na 20-25 minuten.
Dat "knallen in de eerste tien minuten" klinkt logisch voor Twente, maar als wij datzelfde ritme gewoon laten passen dan krijgen zij juist stress. Hopelijk zet PSV die eerste fase slim neer, niet te vroeg slopen en dan pas hun druk breken. 🔥⚽
Dat "kleunen" en meteen fel willen zijn... tbh als Twente dat doet zijn ze echt gevaarlijk. Maar als PSV ze laat schieten en daarna counters pakt, wordt het wel spannend. Perišić moet dan gewoon meteen actie pakken, anders voelt Twente de druk nog meer.
