Mark van Bommel head coach of Belgium | This is how some football fans react

Mark van Bommel will become the new national team coach of Belgium. Earlier this week, several Belgian media reported that the PSV icon has, with only a few details aside, come to an agreement on a contract through the 2028 European Championship.

With this, Van Bommel thus returns to football after two years, having previously left as a coach at Royal Antwerp FC in the summer of 2024. At that club, the former midfielder won the double in 2022/2023.

Als Belg zie ik veel anderen die heel teleurgesteld zijn over zijn deze keuze van de bond. Ik weet dat hij bij Antwerp het goed heeft gedaan maar PSV fans, vinden jullie hem goed als trainer of was dat destijds een regelrechte ramp bij jullie (op tactisch vlak/people management)?

"op een paar details na" klinkt altijd alsof de club al rond was. Hopelijk laat hij België de spelers niet alleen op intensiteit spelen, want die jongens hebben ook kwaliteit om het rustiger te maken. Respect voor wat hij bij PSV heeft gedaan btw ❤️

Mixed feelings tbh. Ik snap dat België geld ruikt, maar van Bommel gaat wel even met onze PSV DNA weg. Volgende stap moet zijn hoe hij zijn verdediging gaat organiseren met zoveel talent in België.
