Ismael Saibari delivers something unique at the World Cup
1 min readIt will almost certainly have escaped nobody that Ismael Saibari is on a roll at this World Cup on behalf of Morocco. The departing PSV player has made an excellent impression so far at the top global end-of-year tournament, and abroad too people are wildly enthusiastic about Saibari’s performances.
The midfielder has also been in all group stage matches of Morocco so far a reliable scorer. Saibari provided the 0-1 in the match against Brazil (1-1), the only goal against Scotland (0-1) and the 2-2 against Haiti (4-2).
With this, Saibari set a unique record by being the first African player ever to score three times in all three group matches at a FIFA World Cup. Never before has a player from an African country managed to score at least one goal in three group-stage matches, and so Saibari has delivered a first of its kind with his strike against Haiti.

Its not just goals, het is ook impact. Tegen Brazilië maakte hij het verschil met die 0-1, en dan ook nog doorzetten tegen Schotland en Haïti. En dat record als eerste Afrikaan... echt unicum 👏🔥
WJ perfect punt, maar tbh die cijfers doen me wel pijn. Drie keer scoren in drie poulewedstrijden is echt goated stuff van Saibari. Als hij dit niveau ook bij PSV terug kan brengen, dan is het een koopje geweest.
Eens. Ik zag die match tegen Haïti, 2-2 en hij trekt het gewoon door. Dit is toch pure piek en geen toeval.
Die record van de eerste Afrikaanse speler die drie keer scoort in drie poulewedstrijden is echt goated. Wel vraag ik me af of PSV straks de speelstijl moet aanpassen als hij terugkomt, want Marokko gebruikt hem als echte aanvalslink.
Vier goals betrokken via scoorden in de poule, wauw. Maar oké, PSV kan hem niet missen, want dit is precies het type middenvelder dat tempo en creativiteit brengt. Ben benieuwd of Marokko hem straks ook buiten zijn comfortzone zet.
Saibari is echt on fire, die 0-1 tegen Brazilië was al meteen een statement. Als je dan ook nog tegen Schotland en Haïti scoort, dan is dit geen toeval maar klasse 🔥⚽
