In this calendar year, the PSV board member wants to see the renowned and ardently desired third star on the shirt realized.
1 min readThe future of PSV has become a hot topic. The club is growing and thriving, and for the time being it doesn’t seem that will change. The third league title in a row has become a fact, Peter Bosz will stay with PSV for two more seasons. There is a waiting list for season-ticket holders of more than 20000 fans, but a third star is also on the way.
two months ago, PSV presented the first impressions for the expansion of the Philips Stadium. PSV has the ambition to expand the stadium to at least 52,000 spectators. The plan is for the stadium to be renovated around 2030 and for the first renovations to take place in the following calendar year. General manager Marcel Brands is eagerly anticipating the expansion of PSV's stadium.
This lets Brands know in the radio program KEIgoeiemorgen! on Omroep Brabant. ''This will be the biggest project the club has ever undertaken. Last time we had a brainstorming session with the management. Then commercial director Frans Janssen asked me whether I find this expansion scary. Well, it is quite exciting. This is so important! And it has to be done in a good way,'' Brands is firm on the radio.
PSV is trying to have the permit process sorted out before the summer. ''In doing so, you are largely dependent on third parties. In addition, there is the financing. We are working very hard on that at the moment. It is looking increasingly positive, but that is still something,'' the managing director says further.

In total, the renovation will have to cost between 350 and 450 million euros, and Brands does not hope that this will then be at the expense of the players' budget. "It can't be the case that we start a project that will end up being thirty, forty or fifty million more expensive. The most important thing is that the club can keep playing at the level on which we are currently actively operating. That football ambition is the most important ambition. But you also want to give the new generation access to the stadium. Actually, doing nothing isn't an option. I think the city of Eindhoven, the supporters and the club are asking for this. But it's a huge job," suggests the general director.
In addition, Brands also aims to see the third star on the PSV shirt before the end of his contract. Brands’ agreement runs until 2029, which would mean that if PSV becomes Dutch champions for the thirtieth time in that year.
''I will do everything I can to contribute my share to that. It is a great challenge'', concludes the managing director.

The best bit for me was the mention of how they keep the tempo even after winning the ball. PSV have missed that little extra decision-making at times, so if they nail it, teams will struggle to reset. Also, good to hear the coaches are backing the young guys.
I'm not fully convinced by the lineup choices. When PSV switch to that narrower shape, it feels like the wide players lose their impact and you end up with more sideways passes than chances. Hope they adjust faster if it turns into a slow game.
If PSV really stick with the pressing triggers they talked about, we could run teams ragged. The midfield looked way more confident when the ball was won high, and that is usually where PSV create the chaos. Excited to see if they can sustain it for 90 minutes.
