1 min readJust like PSV, Ajax also started preparing for the 2026/2027 season. The Amsterdam club, unlike PSV, had a mediocre 2025/2026 in which they reached the Conference League qualifying round via the play-offs after winning on penalties against FC Utrecht.
Moreover, Ajax has a new coach with Míchel, and during the training camp the new coach spoke to the journalists. In doing so, the Spaniard also pointed to PSV.
In an interview with De Telegraaf, the coach also says he is a big fan of Johan Cruyff. ''My vision aligns with that of Cruyff. I hold Johan in very high regard,'' the coach says.
Then the deficit to PSV from last season also comes up. ''If one player puts pressure on, then everyone has to help him with that. And we defend together as well. All the data shows that my players can play with a high intensity. That’s what I want to see. And it must not happen again that we finish 28 points behind PSV'', Míchel continues.
In this respect, the coach emphasizes that he wants to fight for every price. ''"We fight for every price we can win. For me, training with Ajax is a dream, because in terms of history it is one of the biggest clubs in Europe. After Jordi Cruyff got in touch, for me there were no other options left than Ajax'', the Spanish coach said.

tbh Ajax heeft het vorig seizoen via penalties gehaald en dat zegt ook wel iets. Nu praten ze over hoge intensiteit en data... maar zodra de eerste echte drukmomenten komen ga je zien of het echt staat of dat het weer "theoretisch" is 😂
Míchel die Johan Cruijff noemt en tegelijk naar PSV wijst, klinkt wel ambitieus maar Ajax heeft gewoon vaker te veel gaten in hun spel laten zien. Toch wel grappig dat ze denken dat "hoge intensiteit" het verschil maakt, terwijl het bij ons ook al jaren zo is. Wacht even af tot de eerste echte test komt.
"Het mag niet weer gebeuren dat we 28 punten achter PSV eindigen" pff. Als Ajax dat echt serieus neemt, dan is het vooral onze ploeg die opnieuw de lat hoog legt. 👀
Míchel die naar PSV wijst is logisch, maar ik ben vooral benieuwd hoe ze die druk-aanval collectief gaan oplossen. Bij ons was dat vaak het verschil, dus Ajax moet echt team defending laten zien, niet alleen één speler laten rennen.
