“Financially to the abyss” | Bosz wants to give Ajax the final push: “We’ve already given them two points away.”

A special scenario is looming at the Philips Stadium. PSV can put Ajax at an even bigger financial disadvantage. FC Twente will be the guest at the Philips Stadium, but the Tukkers are aiming for third place, which, as everyone knows, means Champions League football. Or rather, the Champions League qualifying round.

An Ibiza trip or not, PSV was by far the better team in the Johan Cruijff Arena but was only allowed to take one point back to Eindhoven. FC Utrecht, however, did win in Amsterdam, making it seem like a worst-case scenario is on the way. Conference League football or no European football would still give Ajax a financial disaster. 'Ajax financially to the brink', it sounds on social media about the club from Amsterdam.

For Peter Bosz, the special scenario of next week does not play a role in his preparation. PSV can, by not winning against FC Twente, deprive Ajax of their last chance of finishing third, something Bosz himself is not concerned with. The head coach from Apeldoorn does, however, see fit to give Ajax the coup de grâce and condemn the Amsterdammers to Conference League football in the preliminary round.

"That doesn't play a role for me, zero", Bosz begins at the press conference after the match. "We've already done too much, because we already gave Ajax two points last week, or at least, we let two slip." For Ajax, things look bleak in the fight for third place in the Eredivisie. The Amsterdammers slipped to fifth place due to the defeat against FC Utrecht and are now partly dependent on their rival PSV, which plays FC Twente on the final day.

FC Twente keeps Ajax under control if they draw next week at the Philips Stadion. But NEC has only two points fewer and can still catch up to FC Twente. Based on goal difference, the two clubs are not much apart because the clubs are level with a goal difference of +23.

Honestly I get the motivation, but it still feels risky to think about Ajax at all. Twente is fighting for third and NEC might still sneak in.

That quote about giving Ajax two points is pure fuel for the rivalry. PSV should go and make it sting against Twente, no excuses.
