Bosz looks back on the draw against Ajax: “We absolutely wanted to win”

1 min read

Last Monday, PSV coach Peter Bosz was a guest on Rondo on Ziggo Sport and in that broadcast the PSV season was put under the microscope. There was also a look back at the match from last Saturday, on a visit to Ajax.

Despite a goal by Myron Boadu in the 77th minute, PSV failed to hold on to a 1-2. In stoppage time, it was Mika Godts who put the 2-2 on the scoreboard on behalf of the Amsterdam side.

Ahead of the match, there was also plenty of talk outside the pitch about PSV's Ibiza trip leading up to this encounter. According to Bosz, this trip ultimately had no influence on the way PSV played in the Johan Cruyff Arena.

''If they hadn't gone, they would still have had two days off and would have gone to Amsterdam. We had a good training week behind us and immediately after the championship we spoke with the boys. We wanted to win all five matches'', the coach tells in Rondo.

Despite the fact that there was nothing left to play for for PSV, Bosz was still critical of his own team. ''Under normal circumstances, I think we play better football, and I think we didn't do that for an hour. Not that Ajax was better, but we didn't play our own football, and in the last half hour it was like that again. You go ahead and then it's disappointing when it becomes equal'', the coach said.

Former PSV player Wim Kieft believes it is somewhat logical that PSV looked a little less sharp in Amsterdam. “No matter how you turn it or twist it, it’s no longer about the championship. You never quite have the sharpness if it’s not really about that. A PSV at full strength could easily have won there,” Kieft says.

Bosz also addresses Sean Steur’s tackle on Yarek Gasiorowski in the 74th minute, in which the Ajax player was booked with a yellow card. ''We absolutely wanted to win. There was one moment. Steur comes in with an outstretched leg on Yarek Gasiorowski. There was no player who reacted to it. If it had come down to it, there might have been five or six players who went flying. You can see that from this that it wasn’t really a match'', Bosz concludes.
