Bosz looks back at the second season: “Decline is always lurking”
1 min readSince Peter Bosz came to PSV in the summer of 2023, the club has now won three consecutive league titles. In the first season, PSV were runaway champions, while the second season after the winter break proved to be difficult.
At the start of the calendar year 2025, PSV had to deal with a significant slump and, partly because of this, Bosz’s team lost the top spot to Ajax. For a long time, it seemed as though the Amsterdam side would win the league title, especially after the capital city team still won 0-2 against PSV in matchday 27, thereby having a nine-point lead with still seven fixtures to go.
In the end, everyone knows how it turned out. Ajax squandered ten points in four matches and, because PSV after the defeat against Ajax went on to win everything, Bosz’s team took over the lead in matchday 33. And in the final matchday, PSV clinched the national title thanks to a 1-3 victory at Sparta Rotterdam.
Last Monday, Peter Bosz was a guest in the program Rondo on Ziggo Sport and there the coach was asked which championship title for him was the most special national title. ''Maybe the first, because it was my first. The second one was also special, because you go nine points ahead, then nine points behind and then you still win it. And now, if you don't play yourself, but the stadium is still full, then that's also special. If you're so far behind and you still win it, then you might be a little happier,'' Bosz replied.

The slump that PSV suffered after the winter break last season led to Bosz being heavily criticized. ''I don't really feel that. If you are at PSV, you have to win. You don't have to tell me that. You are very focused on the tunnel to the next match. They may have been talking about it, but I have never really felt that,'' said the coach.
After that, Bosz went looking for an explanation for the slump in his team. “Decline is always lurking. Back then we were without Tillman for three weeks, and if you then miss Schouten and Veerman. Yes, say it. We got them back in time. During the winter break, some of the boys could already leave. Napoli already came for Lang and Boscagli could already go. That continues to boil negatively,” Bosz said.
