Big PSV supporter backs Veerman: “Maybe he doesn’t feel appreciated”

1 min read

In the past week, almost nobody in the Netherlands could have missed the issue of Joey Veerman - Ronald Koeman. In many a talk show, it was a topic of discussion after the PSV midfielder, following the match against FC Twente, spoke on ESPN’s cameras about the national team coach.

''At some point you’ve had enough of that a bit. It’s his choice who he calls, but then say that you make other choices and not that my character isn’t good'', Veerman told reporter Sanne van Dongen after the last Eredivisie match.

It provided Veerman with support and criticism. Among others, Valentijn Driessen, Mike Verweij, Hugo Borst, Chris Woerts and Willem van Hanegem supported the man from Volendam, while, among others, Johan Derksen and Rob Jansen clearly expressed their support for Koeman.

Also four-time World Champion in Formula 1, and an avid PSV supporter, Max Verstappen has spoken out on this matter. Verstappen makes it clear that he is on Veerman's side.

This tells the racing driver in an interview with De Telegraaf. ''I do like to see and read it when someone says what he thinks. As a footballer, it’s nice to play for your country, but maybe he feels unappreciated. And Koeman will also have his reasons. All good then? I think Joey still went on holiday wonderfully'', Verstappen said.

The quote about "at some point you've had enough of that a bit" is telling. tbh i think Koeman can have reasons, but comunicating it better would calm the whole thing down. PSV fans know Joey gives everything, so this feels personal.

Honestly, i get Veerman's point. If Koeman acts like he is making a choice based on "character" while Veerman thinks his level is there, that hurts. Maybe he just doesnt feel appreciated, like Max said.
