An AD columnist makes a prediction and points to PSV
1 min readPSV will go for its fourth consecutive league title in the 2026/2027 season. Last season, PSV became the earliest-ever league champion in the Eredivisie and, in the end, Peter Bosz’s side finished with a staggering nineteen-point advantage over number 2 Feyenoord.
Maurice Steijn, former head coach of Sparta Rotterdam, and AD columnist Hugo Borst expect a more exciting title race in the coming season compared to last season. Both men say so in the program De Oranjezomer on SBS6.
At Feyenoord, Sem Steijn plays, Maurice’s son. "I hope he can carry through the line he started last year. He joined at a very good time, as top scorer and player of the year. And he made it into the Netherlands national team. Then things started to go off track, also because of an injury. He’s been operated on, trained throughout the summer, and wants to set the league alight this year," Maurice says about his son.
After that, Hugo Borst steps in. ''As far as Sem is concerned, I still believe in him a lot, because he can finish so easily. He's such a smart player. He doesn't have that from his father. And yes... I understand that Ajax has to become champions; PSV wants to extend his contract, so I'm really curious about what statement Giovanni van Bronckhorst will make'', says the journalist and Sparta supporter.
Then the men discuss their expectations for the coming season. ''It will be a great competition. I also think it will be much closer together,'' says Steijn, after which Borst responds: ''PSV is less good, because Saibari is gone.''
That’s what the former Spartak coach responds to: ''Ajax with a few good signings, Feyenoord stable, and behind that also FC Twente, AZ and FC Utrecht... I really can’t wait for the Eredivisie.''
Still, Borst thinks PSV is still the main title contender. ''We always have to put him in for VI, as analysts. But you still don't know who has moved to which club. At the moment, I would say that PSV wins it again, but it's very close between them,'' concludes the columnist from AD.

Na zo'n 19 punten voorsprong voelt alles als overmoed bij andere clubs. Toch, als Ajax en Feyenoord echt scherp blijven, dan is het geen walkover meer. Die quote "ligt heel dicht bij elkaar" is precies het soort spanning dat ik verwacht, maar PSV blijft mijn favoriet. 💯

Eens, competitie dichter bij elkaar, maar PSV is niet "mid". Peter Bosz heeft bewezen dat hij momenten kan controleren. Als ze de vroege titel weer benaderen, dan zijn 1-2 slippertjes genoeg om de rest af te maken.
"op een paar goede aankopen" en "stabiliteit" klinkt leuk, maar PSV moet toch gewoon consistent blijven. Ik ben benieuwd wat Van Bronckhorst echt gaat locken, want het verschil zit al snel in details. 👀💯
Borst doet wel erg alsof het bij PSV alleen om Saibari draait. Ik zie Ajax en Feyenoord zeker verbeteren, maar PSV heeft nog steeds die machine-mentaliteit. Als Sem Steijn vlamt bij Feyenoord, dan wordt het spannend, maar PSV blijft mijn favoriet.
Ik snap Hugo Borst wel, de Eredivisie lijkt weer strakker. Ajax koopt, Feyenoord blijft stabiel, Twente en AZ zijn ook serieus, maar PSV heeft Bosz plus die energie achterin. Als Sem weer fit is, wordt het ook meteen lastiger voor iedereen.

19 punten voorsprong en dan toch "dicht bij elkaar"? Prima, maar als PSV met dezelfde dominantie start is het snel klaar. Saibari weg gaat niet helpen in de goals, maar Bosz vindt echt wel oplossingen.
19 punten voorsprong was echt krankzinnig. Als Borst zegt dat het "heel dicht bij elkaar" ligt, ben ik het eigenlijk wel met hem eens, maar PSV moet dan wel de rust bewaren na vertrek van Saibari.
