A heated discussion on Vandaag Inside about PSV player: “You just have to treat him with respect.”
1 min readEven on Vandaag Inside, there was a heated discussion about the Joey Veerman–Ronald Koeman issue. Despite a strong season at PSV, Veerman will not travel to the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States with the Oranje squad this coming summer.
After the match PSV - FC Twente from last Sunday, the midfielder openly told the camera of ESPN that the national team coach no longer needs to call him. This has not gone unnoticed with the men of Vandaag Inside either.
Johan Derksen ended up on Tuesday evening in a heated discussion with sports marketer Chris Woerts about the situation involving Veerman. Derksen supports the national team coach, while Woerts takes the side of the midfielder from PSV. ''Ronald Koeman has behaved like a gentleman. Koeman gets a question from Valentijn: 'Is it also due to his character?', Valentijn asked. Then he said: 'Yes, partly.' I think that's a fine answer'', is De Snor's opinion.
After that, Derksen goes on to discuss the qualities of the PSV player. ''Joey Veerman can play well against Excelsior and Willem II, but in Oranje you get nothing'', said the bearded analyst.

Chris Woerts is clearly not in agreement with that. ''Nonsense! A knife in the back of Joey Veerman. Koeman could also say: 'I have so many players at my disposal.' He should have said that, but not about his character,'' the sports marketer says, after which Derksen replies: ''He only said: 'Brother.' He also has a worthless attitude.''
Woerts thinks differently about that than Derksen. ''Veerman has meant a lot for Dutch football; you just have to treat him with respect. The national coach is there for the whole Dutch public, not to trash one player'', said the sports marketer.
On that too, the bearded analyst disagrees with Woerts. ''He never performs in important matches. It is always against petty opponents with passes or a long-range shot: with that you cannot win the war!'', Derksen says sharply, after which the sports marketer once again takes up for Veerman. ''That doesn't matter, because then you can still have respect for the player and say: 'Well, you're not going along.' Fine'', according to Woerts.
Then Derksen compares Veerman's situation in Oranje with Mohammed Salah with Arne Slot at Liverpool FC. ''It's the same as Salah there at Liverpool. They get passed over, their ego is hurt, and then they go to the press and start mumbling. Then he tells the press: 'I don't want to play in Oranje anymore for Koeman.' Well, Koeman agrees wholeheartedly with that. Closed'', Derksen concludes.
