PSV choir boys mock an Ajax icon: “Does he ever see European football again?”
1 min readUnlike PSV, the season for rival Ajax is still not over. Last Sunday, the Amsterdam side could not get beyond a 0-0 draw on their visit to sc Heerenveen, and that means Oscar Garcia’s team has to play play-offs for a spot in the Conference League qualifying round.
The Amsterdammers still had a minimal chance of qualifying for the Champions League group stage prior to the final matchweek, provided they won at the Abe Lenstra Stadium and the other teams NEC against Go Ahead Eagles did not go beyond a draw and FC Twente would lose at PSV. The Twente side indeed lost without any chance with 5-1 at PSV, but NEC won at home 2-1 against Go Ahead Eagles, which meant that Dick Schreuder’s surprise team finished third and will therefore be playing in the Champions League qualifying round next season.
Next Thursday, Ajax play the semi-final against FC Groningen at the stadium of FC Volendam, which finished ninth in the Eredivisie. If the capital club advances to the final, they will face FC Utrecht or sc Heerenveen.
PSV duo Willy and René van de Kerkhof can certainly enjoy the malaise in Amsterdam. The pair is also very curious whether the people of Amsterdam will still qualify for European football.
In addition, they can't help but hand out a little taunt to Mister Ajax Sjaak Swart if his club fails to win the playoffs. ''Otherwise, I would invite Sjaak Swart to come watch the Champions League with us. He'll get to see European football again, too'', the duo says in the Willy and René Podcast on Omroep Brabant.

0-0 at Heerenveen and now a semi against Groningen... Ajax look mid table in Europe mode. Garcia or not, that quote from Willy and Rene is spot on, "europees voetbal" doesnt come cheap.
Eens, die situatie is gewoon pijnlijk voor Ajax fans. Als ze de halve finale tegen Groningen overleven, blijft het alsnog stress met die play-offs. Grappig dat Twente bij PSV 5-1 kreeg, maar toch is het uiteindelijk NEC dat die CL-plek pakt.
The funniest part is the jab at Swart. If Ajax miss the playoffs, they really should invite him to Eindhoven for actual Champions League... or at least watch PSV on TV 😅

That whole scenario was brutal for Ajax. Twente gets a 5-1 loss to PSV but still, NEC winning means Ajax has to crawl into Conference League playoffs. Honestly deserved, bruh.
0-0 tegen Heerenveen en dan toch play-offs moeten spelen, dat is echt pech maar ook domme keuzes. PSV deed gewoon wat het moest, Twente verloor, en NEC won... zo zie je maar hoe snel die minimale kansen verdampen 👀
