Earnie Stewart: “We’re aiming for 70 to 75 million euros”

The switch of Ismael Saibari to Bayern Munich will be a record transfer for PSV, but the reports that PSV will do far too little to hold on to the transfer fees are getting louder and louder. Various analysts and journalists also note that PSV has set the asking price for Saibari too low.

But is that really the case? After all, it is still early in the transfer summer, and perhaps Saibari has suffered an injury or other frictions have arisen that would prevent a transfer fee of 60 to 70 million euros from being realized. But still, it lingers somewhat, those 55 million euros. Especially when you consider that PSV will still have to hand over a sizeable part to KRC Genk, Saibari’s previous club.

It’s a bit weak because judging afterwards is always easy, but in the meantime many references have been made to Stewart’s earlier statements about the height of the transfer fee for Ismael Saibari.

Trainer Peter Bosz previously indicated that Saibari should cost more than sixty million euros. "If you hear in the corridors what is being asked for other players, then it’s not strange that we’re sitting high in the tree for one of our best players. That seems very logical to me", Stewart said in April about those remarks.

The technical boss really said it, in an interview with ESPN. 'We’re aiming for 70 to 75 million euros,' referring to the expected and also desired transfer fee for Saibari, which, as it currently looks, will end up more than 20 million euros lower.
