Orange fans strike hard and point to the biggest dissonance: ‘Ignorance’
1 min readNo one in the Netherlands could have missed it that in the 88th minute the Netherlands national team was left with its nose to the grindstone against Japan in the first group match of the 2026 World Cup in North America and drew 2-2. National coach Ronald Koeman, who kept PSV player Guus Til on the bench for the entire match, decided to make a substitution during the drinks break in the second half.
That way Donyell Malen, Tijani Reijnders and Crysencio Summerville were replaced by Memphis Depay, Quinten Timber and Teun Koopmeiners. In addition, Nathan Aké was brought onto the field in minute 81 as a tactical substitution and Cody Gakpo was replaced by Brian Brobbey.
Especially the last two substitutions put the national team coach under heavy criticism from the Oranje supporters on the social media platform X. A selection of the reactions:

"Onkunde" snap ik wel, want die laatste keuzes lijken totaal niet logisch met het wedstrijdbeeld. Koeman wisselt in een stand waarin je juist tempo en frisheid nodig hebt, maar haalt Gakpo eruit voor Brobbey terwijl je net momentum zocht. tbh het is gewoon slap tempo beheer.
"Onkunde" is misschien hard, maar ik snap de frustratie wel. Als Aké tactisch binnenkomt bij 81 en Gakpo eruit moet, dan verwacht je op z'n minst een plan dat meteen iets verandert. Nu was het meer hopen dan sturen. 🔥
Koeman liet Guus Til dus heel de wedstrijd staan, terwijl je in zo'n pot toch moet durven. De wissels bij 81 en rond het einde voelen gewoon te laat en te behoudend, en dan ga je 2-2 halen... tbh niet top.
Guus Til de hele wedstrijd op de bank en dan pas bij de drinkpauze schuiven, dat voelt echt als te laat ingrijpen. En dan ook nog Aké als tactische wissel in 81... wat moet dat precies oplossen? 🤡
