“Bizarre decision” | PSV definitively does not exercise the option to buy, departure to Italy is set

1 min read

What is on Anass Salah-Eddine’s mind? The defender is currently active with Morocco at the 2026 World Cup in North America. In the night from Saturday to Sunday, Salah-Eddine came on as a substitute in the match against Brazil, where Ismael Saibari managed to make it 0-1.

At the start of the season, the left back arrived on loan from AS Roma and soon the Moroccan international managed to earn a place in the starting lineup at PSV. Partly because of this, the club management wanted to secure the defender on a permanent basis for a longer period and at least eight million euros had to be put on the table.

Despite multiple offers, Salah-Eddine has decided to go for his chance at AS Roma and therefore not sign a contract with PSV. As a result, PSV does not exercise the purchase option either. His departure—or rather, his return to Italy—is therefore certain. It remains a bizarre decision by Salah-Edinne, who at PSV still has every opportunity to develop at the highest level.

Roma must have promised him something big, otherwise its such a weird move. But PSV still should've planned the summer as if he might bolt anyway, because this return to Italy being 'fixed' is not a surprise to me 😅

Dat is gewoon peak mismanagement from the player side 🔥

He came in and immediately looked like he belonged at left-back, Saibari's 0-1 win and all. Idk what he thought was going to be better at Roma straight away but we lose depth for free.

If he was that good at PSV, why not just lock it in and then decide later? Eight million was the floor and they still backed him.

This feels so unnecessary tbh. PSV gave him real minutes and he still chooses to gamble on Roma again... why man 🤡
