Journalist steps up for the interview: “Then you also have to mention what that is.”
1 min readIn the past few days, a lot has been said about the statements Joey Veerman made after the match PSV - FC Twente. The midfielder said that national team coach Ronald Koeman no longer needs to call him once it became known that Veerman is not among the squad of 55 players from which a squad of 26 players must be selected for the World Cup.
At the De Oranjezondag on SBS6, the Koeman-Veerman issue is also discussed. There, the PSV player receives support from journalist Rutger Castricum.

Then reporter Noa Vahle goes into the interview that Veerman had on camera with ESPN after the match against FC Twente that was won. ''The strange thing is that Veerman today (Sunday, ed.) was very certain: 'Nothing happened at the European Championship in 2024 and after that I have never been called up again. I wasn’t told that it has to do with my character, so then say that it’s about my qualities'. But if it’s about qualities, then you would put him on a preliminary selection list. And he isn’t on it either,'' Vahle says.
The reporter therefore also no longer sees how it could work out between the two people in question. ''Koeman doesn't need to call him, no. But the other way around also not anymore. That's just it. As long as Ronald Koeman is national team coach of Oranje, Joey Veerman won't be involved there anymore,'' said Vahle.
Then presenter Hélène Hendriks comes in. ''And that while Koeman could certainly use him at the World Cup'', to which Vahle replies: ''Certainly now that Jerdy Schouten is injured, you could have called him up.''

Man, die hele redenering klopt niet. Als Veerman zegt "het gaat niet om mijn karakter" en dan staat hij niet eens op die voorselectielijst, dan ruikt het naar politiek of net te weinig duidelijkheid. Koeman hoeft hem niet te bellen, maar dit soort vaagheid maakt het alleen erger.
Koeman hoeft hem niet meer te bellen, zegt Vahle, maar ik denk dat het ook sportief niet slim is om zo rigide te blijven. Als Schouten geblesseerd is, had Veerman toch kansen moeten krijgen. Daar gaat het mij om, voetbal boven drama. 👀
Tbh vind ik het logisch dat Joey boos is. Hij zegt dat er niks is gebeurd op het EK en dat zijn karakter niet het probleem is. Dan is het ook raar dat hij dan nog steeds niet in die 55 zit... 🔥
"Zeker nu Jerdy Schouten geblesseerd is had je hem wel kunnen oproepen." Ja hallo, dit is echt de beste insteek. Als PSV hem kan laten draaien op dit niveau, dan is dit gewoon een gemiste kans. Wtf. 🔥⚽
Noa Vahle is wat mij betreft het meest nuchter: "Maar andersom ook niet meer. Dat is gewoon klaar." Als Schouten geblesseerd is, dan had je Koeman toch kunnen dwingen om te kijken naar fit en rol. Koeman gebruikt hem niet, dus het wordt politiek i.p.v. voetbal. 🙄
Joey zegt stellig dat er niets is gebeurd en daarna is hij niet meer opgeroepen. Dan is het toch raar dat hij niet eens op zo'n 55-lijst staat. Dat voelt voor mij meer als "we willen je niet" dan als "het gaat om kwaliteiten". 🔥
Tbh Castricum zegt precies wat ik ook denk, als je kritiek hebt moet je het concreet maken. "Je hebt kritiek, dan moet je ook benoemen wat dat is" is gewoon waarheid. Anders krijg je meteen dat iedereen maar gaat invullen dat Joey onhandelbaar is, echt zonde.
Tbh die uitspraak van Veerman na Twente klinkt gewoon als frustratie, want hij legt het zo uit: geen incident op het EK en nooit iets over karakter gehad. Maar als hij dan niet eens op die 55-lijst staat, dan klopt het verhaal langs beide kanten toch niet helemaal. 🤔
Rutger Castricum zegt precies wat ik denk. Als je kritiek hebt, noem het dan gewoon en klaar. Nu blijft het allemaal vaag en dan krijg je het circus in de media.
Rutger Castricum die zegt dat je "moet benoemen wat dat is" snap ik echt. Je kan kritiek hebben, maar als je vaag blijft dan krijg je dat hele "onhandelbaar" verhaal als sneeuwbal. En dan ben je Joey z'n naam kwijt.
Dat stuk over Joey op die voorselectielijst slaat toch nergens op voor mij. Als het echt om zijn kwaliteiten gaat, dan moet je hem daar toch minstens ergens zien? 😅
Rutger Castricum is wel duidelijk, "vage kritiek" zonder uitleg is echt niks. Als Koeman iets vindt, benoem het dan gewoon... Anders krijg je dit gedoe in de wandelgangen.
