Loaned PSV for another year?: “Looks pretty big in advance.”

1 min read

At the start of this season, PSV decided to loan midfielder Tygo Land to FC Groningen. After a difficult start, Land has now become an important link for the Groningen side.

Because of this, the Pride of the North would want to lease the midfielder from PSV for another year. The Eindhovens Dagblad reports this news.

Also due to the fierce competition in midfield, Land at the moment seems to have little chance of getting playing time with PSV’s first team, and therefore a second season as a loanee at FC Groningen certainly does not seem out of the question. ''The chance that all parties will want to go for such an extra loan year seems, in advance, to be quite high'', the ED writes.

Two months ago, Land, in an interview with Voetbal International, also indicated that he is open to staying longer in Groningen. The midfielder said that he is really enjoying himself in the Far North.

In Groningen, the mercenary is accompanied by none other than High Performance Manager Phillip Cocu.

If Land is getting real minutes in Groningen, I get why PSV would let it run for another year. Sounds like he is not getting the same chances here with that midfield competition.

Honestly I like this plan. Tygo being guided by Cocu as well, that is proper development. The quote about it being "best groot" feels pretty realistic.

But do we really want to keep him on loan another season? PSV's midfield is crowded, sure, yet we should be using loans to build first-team options, not just keep a player busy.

Land saying he is loving it in the Hoge Noorden is a big plus. If he is already a key part for Groningen, another loan could be a win-win. I just hope PSV has a clear path for him afterward.

Cocu coaching him is the one detail that makes this feel more than just "kick the can down the road". The fact it is even being discussed tells you Land's performances are catching eyes outside Eindhoven.

Honestly, I get it. If Land is finally finding his rhythm at Groningen and PSV midfield is stacked, another loan makes way more sense than forcing him to sit on the bench.

Phillip Cocu coaching him is a big plus though. He should develop smart, and if Land comes back with that confidence, PSV can benefit even if he is not a guaranteed starter now.

I like Land, but I hate the idea of us just loaning our way out of tough competition. It feels like a missed chance if we do not plan a real pathway for him back into the PSV XI.
