Former PSV player Jordy de Wijs returns to the Netherlands
1 min readWeeks ago, rumors were already circulating and now it’s official. Former PSV youth player Jordy de Wijs is returning to the Netherlands and signing a contract with provincial peer RKC Waalwijk.
The long defender has been officially presented by the Waalwijkers and has signed a two-year contract with the club from the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. De Wijs arrives on a free transfer from the German Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Bernd Schuiteman, the technical director of the yellow-blues from Waalwijk, is happy with the arrival of the towering defender. ''It is great that we have been able to add a player of Jordy's caliber to our squad'', says Schuiteman on the RKC Waalwijk club website.
Wijs made his debut in 2015 with PSV’s first team during the Champions League match away at VfL Wolfsburg (2-0). The defender came on for Simon Poulsen.
However, PSV did not experience a true breakthrough for De Wijs, and after a year and a half on loan to Excelsior, the defender left in 2018 for Hull City in England. After that, the former PSV player still played for Queens Park Rangers from London before, in 2022, moving to Germany to go and play football with Fortuna Düsseldorf.
In 2025, De Wijs was loaned out again to a Dutch club. Last season, the defender played three matches in the second half of the season for sc Heerenveen before returning to Germany last summer.

Keuken Kampioen Divisie voelt als een late carrièreswitch, maar als "boomlange verdediger" zijn waarde kan geven dan is het tenminste nuttig. i remember dat hij bij PSV vooral kansen kreeg als invaller, maar niet als vaste basis. 👀
🔥 Debuut bij Wolfsburg in 2015, ingevallen voor Simon Poulsen. Rare route eigenlijk, van PSV-hoofdpot naar Excelsior, Hull, QPR en dan weer Duitsland. Hoe zit het, was hij te laat doorontwikkeld of gewoon pech met keuzes bij PSV?
Tbh goed dat hij terug is in NL, maar wel jammer voor PSV dat het bij hem nooit echt doorpakte. 2-0 bij Wolfsburg als debutant klinkt mooi, maar RKC is wel een stap lager dan het soort ontwikkeling dat je bij PSV wil zien. 🔥
i snap dat PSV hem niet kon houden, maar hij kreeg bij ons ook gewoon weinig kansen tbh. Van VfL Wolfsburg (2-0) invallen voor Simon Poulsen lijkt al lang geleden. Nu bij RKC gaat het meer om strijd, niet om Champions League droom. 😅
Jordy de Wijs terug in NL was te verwachten, maar toch jammer dat het bij PSV nooit echt doorbrak. Keurig voor RKC dat ze hem transfervrij kunnen pakken, die lengte is in de Keuken Kampioen Divisie echt een wapen. ⚽👀
De Technisch directeur zegt "van het kaliber Jordy", maar ik vraag me af of hij nog top is of meer een stabiliteit-verdediger. Als hij transfervrij komt na Fortuna Düsseldorf, dan snap ik het wel voor RKC, maar voor PSV-fans blijft het toch dubbel.
jordi de wijs terug in NL is wel logisch, hij was toch al jaren in beweging. Hopelijk kan RKC hem echt als vaste verdediger gebruiken, want bij PSV kreeg ie nooit z'n doorbraak.
