Defender FC Twente for 16 million to PSV?: “I also think you have to think in terms of amounts like this.”
1 min readIn recent weeks, defenders Mats Rots and Ruud Nijstad of FC Twente have frequently been linked with a transfer to PSV. Last Sunday, both defenders still started for the Tukkers and ultimately suffered a 5-1 defeat, causing John van den Brom’s side to miss out on a place in the Champions League preliminary round.
For FC Twente watcher Leon ten Voorde from the newspaper Tubantia, it is still a question whether both defenders will still be active in Enschede next season. ''Yes, that is the big question. And I can't answer that with 'yes' or 'no'', says Ten Voorde in the podcast De Ballen Verstand of Tubantia.
The two talented backline players have made a strong impression this season, and the chance therefore seems to be there that both players will leave the Tukkers. Still, the journalist thinks that a hefty amount of money must be put on the table if FC Twente wants to go through with the sale of both players.
After that, Ten Voorde points to the work of current ESPN analyst Arnold Bruggink regarding Mats Rots. ''Sunday evening Arnold Bruggink was on ESPN and he of course knows Mats Rots well too. And he has done good work for FC Twente, because he pitched Rots. He said that PSV has paid around sixteen million for Ruben van Bommel. Then take a look at Mats Rots. I also think you have to think about amounts like this, if he leaves the door'', the journalist continues.
According to Ten Voorde, Rots is certainly not worth less than Ruben van Bommel. ''He still has a two-year contract, so FC Twente can and will sit very high in the tree. Is he worth more than Van Bommel? Well, not less. PSV will also first need to sell, if it wants to be able to put up this kind of amount.''
Besides Mats Rots, Ruud Nijstad is also mentioned and, according to Ten Voorde, the young center back would do well to stay in Enschede for at least another year. ''I didn't think he was bad, but he was a bit uncertain against PSV. Normally speaking, he is very comfortable with the ball, but I've seen him better. He just needs to stay at FC Twente for another year. Not because I'm looking through a Twente lens, but purely for the development of the footballer. He is better than that Spaniard from PSV (Yarek Gasiorowski, ed.). Already now. I'm convinced of that. But moments like Sunday are punished immediately at the top level,'' the journalist concludes.

"Ik denk ook dat je aan dit soort bedragen moet denken" ja toch? Ruben van Bommel was toen top, maar Rots is nog steeds minder bewezen op dit niveau. Tbh ik zou eerst willen zien dat PSV de backline meteen stabiel maakt, anders is zo'n prijs ineens cap.
"Ik denk ook dat je aan dit soort bedragen moet denken" is precies waar het wringt. Twente gaat niet zomaar verkopen als Rots nog twee jaar contract heeft, maar PSV moet wel zorgen dat ze niet alleen op papier sterk zijn. Tegen topploegen krijg je geen tweede kans zoals Ten Voorde zegt.
16 miljoen voor Mats Rots? Als Bruggink 'm zo vergelijkt met Van Bommel, dan klinkt dat niet eens gek. Alleen ben ik benieuwd of Nijstad ook echt nodig is, want die 5-1 tegen Twente zegt ook genoeg over timing en drukmomenten.
Rots is volgens mij niet minder waard dan Van Bommel, maar die 16 miljoen is ook wel een statement. Eerst verkopen, anders kom je niet eens in die prijsklasse. Als PSV hem haalt, moet het ook echt passen bij onze opbouw en drukbestendigheid. 🔥
Wat een domme setup, Ruud Nijstad is volgens Ten Voorde soms onzeker tegen PSV. Ik ben benieuwd hoe hij dat oplost als wij druk geven, want "momenten zoals zondag worden in de top direct afgestraft" klinkt alsof we daar pijn gaan lijden. 👀
16 miljoen voor Mats Rots is ineens heel realistisch als je het vergelijkt met Ruben van Bommel. Tbh als Twente echt 2 jaar op contract heeft en nog hoger gaat mikken, dan moeten wij wel snel schakelen. ⚽
i think 16m is doable, maar na die 5-1 lijkt Nijstad juist extra fragiel. Als Rots inderdaad zo stabiel is in balbezit, dan snap ik de interesse, maar verdedigend moet hij meteen top zijn.
16 miljoen voor Mats Rots zou echt geen gek bod zijn, zeker als je hem vergelijkt met wat PSV eerder voor Van Bommel betaalde. Maar als PSV zo'n bedrag wil leggen, moeten ze Twente wel echt laten zwichten en eerst zelf verkopen.
16 miljoen voor Mats Rots is dus het startpunt, en eerlijk is eerlijk, daar mag PSV wel in meegaan als hij echt die Ruben van Bommel-waarde heeft. Als Twente hem wil laten gaan, dan moeten ze ook niet half werk leveren. Die 5-1 tegen ons zegt ook genoeg over hoe snel het mis kan gaan op zo'n moment.
