Another noise from France: 'PSV wanted more money'

1 min read

It may not have escaped many people that the transfer of Armando Obispo to RC Lens was called off at the last moment. Obispo seemed for a long time to be on course to spend twenty years continuing his career with the French number two of last season, but for now the defender remains a PSV player.

According to Eindhovens Dagblad, the transfer will not go ahead since Obispo was unable to work things out himself with RC Lens despite the fact that PSV had reached an agreement. However, the French outlet L'Équipe has a different take.

According to the newspaper, the personal demands of the defender played no role. PSV would in fact have wanted to enter into talks again about the amount of the transfer fee.

''After a few days of negotiations, Lens and PSV seemed to have reached an agreement last Thursday on a transfer fee of about 4 million euros, excluding bonuses. But PSV reportedly wanted to negotiate again over the amounts in the past hours, which of course delayed the deal'', so it is said among other things.

Nevertheless, it is still not ruled out that Obispo will move to Northern France after all. ''The transfer is not completely off the table, although that possibility can no longer be ruled out. Obispo, who played with Curaçao at the World Cup (9 caps), had already reached an agreement with Lens a few days ago'', concludes the French newspaper.

Still not over? So we might get him in later if Lens comes back with the same numbers. But ngl, this reeks of unnecessary pressure, and defenders already played at the WC, they want their move. ⚽️

Obispo not forcing it with Lens personal demands is believable, but the fee talk seems like the real issue. Do we risk losing him because we want 500k more? Lets see if it gets fixed before preseason... 👀

"PSV wilde naar verluidt de afgelopen uren opnieuw onderhandelen over de bedragen" ... that line is brutal. Either PSV thought Lens would fold, or they got spooked by something and stalled it. Mid-table business, fr.

i hate this kind of last-minute negotiation drama. Tbh if Lens really wanted him and Obispo was already agreeing, PSV pushing the amount again just smells like bad handling. 🙄

If L'Equipe is right, this is pure PSV being stubborn with the fee. 4 million plus bonuses is already a decent deal, why keep reopening the talks hours before the deadline? 🤡
