After an exceptionally good first season, PSV only wants to make deals for the absolute top price: “40 million euros.”
1 min readPSV saw Yarek Gasiorowski at the start of last season as the ideal new central defender for the future and the near future. The Polish Spaniard has certainly lived up to those expectations.
As is customary to do, interest then springs up because his first season in Eindhoven has been a success. His name is mentioned in one breath by foreign transfer journalists alongside clubs such as Atlético Madrid, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund. In particular, that last club seems to be in concrete view.
The 21-year-old centre-back is therefore doing well with a number of European clubs. His age plays a major role in that. Although the Spaniard, after the winter break, temporarily lost his starting spot to Armando Obispo, clubs such as Atlético Madrid, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund would be concretely in the market for his signature, so reports transfer journalist Ekrem Konur.
PSV took the wing of a left-footed stopper from Valencia for a fee of just under ten million euros last summer. In the first half of the season, under coach Peter Bosz, he quickly grew into a regular in the team. After the winter break, however, the defender went through a rough patch, after which Bosz placed him on the bench without any hesitation and yet fairly quickly.

Obispo lost his spot again to Gasiorowski in the closing stages of the competition. Along with Ryan Flamingo, the Spaniard now forms the defense. So far, the Spaniard has made 36 official appearances, in which he scored three times and provided two assists. Also in Deventer, the long Spaniard is expected to be in the starting lineup.
According to transfer journalist Ekrem Konur, in addition to Atlético Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Brentford are also convinced of the qualities of the defender. From London, Arsenal would be considering a formal bid of 25 million euros plus bonuses, while Atlético Madrid currently does not seem willing to go beyond 23 million euros. To persuade the player himself, a yearly salary of between four and six million euros would be ready with the interested parties. The transfer journalist’s reports, who is also considered well-regarded, seem somewhat made up.
The amounts mentioned, from England and Spain, for now do not come anywhere close to the amount that the club management of PSV has in mind. Konur reports that PSV would like to and could ask for around forty million euros for Gasiorowksi.

The timing is funny though, because he dipped after the winterstop and then Obispo took over again. Now he's back in and partner with Ryan Flamingo looks solid, so I'm not mad at a big fee. Just don't sell when we need stability.
That Arsenal 25 million plus bonuses and Atletico 23 million rumor sounds a bit random to me. Ekrem Konur might be reliable, but these numbers also look like they're trying to force PSV's hand. If PSV truly wants 40, let's see who actually bites.
I love that he finally looks like a real future CB, not just potential. The 36 games, 3 goals, 2 assists is a nice return for a defender. If Arsenal is only at 25 plus bonuses, I do think PSV can stand firm.
Honestly I like the attitude. After scoring 3 goals and getting 2 assists from centre-back, plus being 21, you cannot sell him for cheap. Let Dortmund or someone else pay the premium.
40 million for Gasiorowski feels like the kind of number PSV always demands, even if the market is lower. If he keeps playing like this, I get it, but 21-year-old center backs get priced differently depending on how long they still have contract-wise.
Konur mentioning 23m Atletico and 25m Arsenal, then saying it is all not close to 40m, that is exactly how these deals usually go. If PSV truly want
Arsenal at 25m plus bonuses sounds believable, but 40m feels like PSV dreaming a bit. Still, the way he bounced back and paired with Flamingo has been solid.
If PSV want 40 million for Gasiorowski then good, he has real value now. But I do worry we might price ourselves out, especially with Obispo getting minutes again at times.
