“A dream” | Not Benfica, but PSV seems the best option: “PSV can easily beat Feyenoord and Ajax”

His name was already linked to PSV earlier this season. The main reason for that is in fact that only PSV can afford him. Just like FC Twente, AZ and NEC, FC Groningen also believes it can demand top price for its most important players.

That also applies to Stije Resink. The currently injured midfielder has expressed a desire to be transferred to a Dutch top club. The currently severely injured midfielder sees in the Eredivisie enough room to further develop himself. In that case, PSV seems to be the best option. PSV can, given its sporting and financial status, easily outcompete Feyenoord and Ajax. At least, at this time.

The road to the top of the Eredivisie is what Resink has in mind for himself. The midfielder told ESPN in the Goedemorgen Eredivisie program. 'Ever since I was young, it's been a dream for me to play at the top of the Netherlands. I also think I can still develop enough for myself in the Netherlands, so in the ideal scenario I will continue at the top of the Netherlands. After that, at some point I would like to make a move to abroad.'

Currently, Resink is recovering from a knee ligament injury, but a transfer cannot ultimately be stopped. 'You become increasingly decisive in a team. In training sessions, but also in matches. Then you notice that it all starts to happen automatically and that the challenge you had when you first joined is no longer there. Then you notice that you're ready for a step up.'

Because of his serious injury, Resink appears to be staying with FC Groningen for a while longer. A transfer to Benfica therefore seems out of the question, although the Portuguese top club did check on him earlier this year. 'Things are going well. I was operated on about a month and a half ago. Since this week, I'm off the crutches, which is a relief. It's going according to schedule, even if it's small steps.'

I get the excitement, but

I like the idea of him following the "top in NL first, then abroad" plan. PSV have a history of making injured players come back strong, so Im cautiously optimistic.

Benfica already polled him but PSV being the option because only they can pay makes sense. Lets be real though, in practice nothing is easy in transfers, even if the money is there.

That quote about becoming more decisive in training and matches is exactly what you want to hear. If his development stalls at Groningen, PSV is the right next step before the abroad dream.

Crossband injury always makes me nervous, even if he says things are going by schedule. But if he is off the crutches now, that timing could actually be perfect for PSV to evaluate him properly.

The article mentions he thinks PSV can beat Ajax and Feyenoord "easily" which is a big claim. Still, with his injury status, it sounds like PSV would be the kind of club that can take a careful gamble.

Benfica already checked him earlier, so it's not like the market is only PSV. Still, the idea that he wants the Eredivisie top first makes sense for his development.

If PSV can truly pay him, this feels like the smartest move. Resink sounds like a real upgrade in that midfield engine room, especially if he is already thinking top of the Netherlands first.

The quote about

Big if though, since he is coming off a cruciate injury. Kreuzband is not a straight line back, so I hope PSV gets the timing and medical stuff spot on.

If Resink is looking at PSV, I love that ambition. The article says PSV can outbid Ajax and Feyenoord, and honestly, with our structure that sounds believable.
