Three PSV players in the VP Team of the Year

1 min read

The 2025/2026 season in the Netherlands is over and, as everyone knows, PSV has become national champions for the third time in a row under coach Peter Bosz. That’s why it’s also time for some football media to announce their Team of the Year.

Also with the media outlet VoetbalPrimeur, the team of the year has long been known. Over the past few weeks, fans have been able to cast their vote en masse for every position among five nominees.

In addition, the fans also awarded three spots to PSV players. This makes the league champions, together with the surprise team NEC, which reached the Champions League qualifying round this season, the main supplier for the squad.

In defense, Mauro Junior is positioned as left-back, while Youri Baas (Ajax) is set up as the left center-back. Stav Lemkin and Bart van Rooij (both FC Twente) form the right side of the defense, while PSV loanee Joël Drommel (Sparta Rotterdam) has been chosen by the fans as the best goalkeeper of the season.

In midfield is Ismael Saibari, who was earlier chosen by the medium as Player of the Year, wearing number 10 and this is the only PSV player in midfield. The Moroccan international is accompanied by Kodai Sano and Darko Nejasmic from NEC.

In the attacking phase, the fans made room for Ivan Perisic, who narrowly managed to come out on top against Ajax forward Mika Godts. Perisic is supported in attack by Ayase Ueda (Feyenoord) in the striker role and Sami Ouaissa (NEC) on the right wing.

Eens. But dont lie, the finishing was mid... We created the chances, still lacked that last bit of killer instinct in front of goal. 90 minutes of belief, 10 minutes of panic. 🤡

Felt like Bakayoko was the only one consistently trying to beat his man. If he gets double-teamed, someone else has to step up, otherwise its predictable. PSV can be scary, but only if we rotate faster. 😅

"PSV Inside" calling it a big tactical step but im not convinced. The pressing is either on or its chaos, and if the tempo dips, you see the gaps immediately. Still, give me that intensity in the next game and i think they can cook. 🔥

"we need more bravery in the half-spaces" is spot on. The moment someone makes that direct run, the whole team moves forward. Right now too many chances die with the sideways ball. Goated take though.

Wie kijkt mee? 😅 I swear the buildup looks so smooth until the final third, then it's like everyone forgets the run. Need more directness from the wingers, and please stop overplaying under pressure.

"We need more from the wings" - yeah, agreed. But also, some of the crosses were just forced, not actually planned. Give us one more clever underlap and that defensive line will crack 💯

i like what they said about pressing triggers, but tbh our press was a bit late at times. When we win it, we look dangerous, but the transition back to defense still feels shaky. Any update on how they fix that? 🔥

The midfield balance worries me. When the article says they want to control games, it feels like they sometimes overdo it and leave space in behind. If X has to be the shield every match, sooner or later it gets punished 👀

If PSV go with that midfield shape again, they have to control the half-spaces better. Schouten needs to be quicker between the lines, otherwise it turns into sideways passes and nothing in behind.

If PSV are going to play like that in possession, we need more runs from the wide lads. Right now it looks a bit too predictable, defenders can step out and we lose momentum. Still, that press start was nasty 🔥

Did PSV actually look better with the new shape in possession? I felt it helped the build-up, but we still got stuck in slow passes when the press came. Needs more tempo from the midfield if we want to punish teams early. 👀
