This country is traveling to the World Cup for the first time since 2002 without a (former) PSV player.
1 min readAfter the United States and Canada had already announced their squads for the World Cup in their home country, the third host, Mexico, has also announced its squad for the global finals tournament. The Mexicans kick off the World Cup on Thursday, 11 June, with a match against South Africa.
Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre has made no place in his World Cup squad for a former PSV player. It had already been known that Hirving Lozano and Érick Gutiérrez were not in the preliminary squad for El Tri and that they therefore will not participate in the World Cup either.
Only Richy Ledezma, who last season switched from PSV to the Mexican club Chivas, still had a chance to earn a place in Mexico’s World Cup squad as a former PSV player. In the end, Aguirre decided not to call up Ledezma, meaning that for the first time since the 2002 World Cup there is no (former) PSV player in Mexico’s World Cup squad.

Dunno man, PSV always look best when the tempo is high. When it slows down, it becomes too easy for opponents to set their shape. mid or peak, no in-between tbh.
Key line for me was about the build-up rhythm. If PSV slow it down too much, teams like Ajax will press and steal it.
Goal!! if PSV can turn that high line into offsides, we are cooking. But im watching for one thing: late defensive cover, if that is mid, the game will flip fast. 🤬
I liked the point about the build-up being faster, but im not convinced it works if the midfield spacing is too narrow. When the 6 drops, the 8 has to find the half-space early. Otherwise it becomes predictable and gets smothered. 👀
Ten Hag.. sorry wrong thread lol. Anyway, if the article is right about the tactics, then our best chance is attacking the half-spaces and forcing the fullback to commit. That is where a lot of chances come from. 💯
🔥🔥 This is exactly the kind of football where Bakayoko runs at players and makes defenders panic. Let him play on the half-turn more, he is a cheat code.
Not gonna lie, the PSV plan sounds solid on paper. But if the build-up is slow, the transitions will look ugly. I just hope they keep the tempo up, otherwise it becomes a mid-table nightmare. 👀
"We have to be brave in possession" is true, but bravery without quicker circulation is just inviting pressure. If the winger keeps coming inside too early, our overload on the flank disappears.
"Inside PSV" better be talking about the fullbacks because they were shaky last match. One step late and suddenly you defend like it is 2010 again. Set up the width or we will get punished. 💀
Im calling it, X player needs to be more direct, stop playing everything backwards. If we want goals, we have to shoot earlier and make the box panic. 💯⚽
Tbh im not convinced by the left side setup, the article makes it sound simple but the overlap is not always there. When they force the ball wide they still look a bit predictable.
If PSV played with this intensity from minute 1, we will bury teams. But imo the midfield has to screen better when they lose the ball, otherwise it turns into transition chaos.
"Tactical flexibility" sounds nice, but im still worried about the balance when the fullbacks step up. Propper width is there, but the gaps behind them are always loud. 🙄
lol why does it feel like we always start calm then suddenly lose the ball in midfield? i like the press, but it has to be coordinated. 🔥
If PSV really want to keep control in midfield, i hope the article is right about the pressing intensity. Too many games this season we invite pressure then panic on the turn. We need more composure from the 8, not just running. 🔥
If PSV are serious about control, we need that midfield to screen more space behind the fullbacks. The article hints at it, and honestly that is where we get punished too often.
If PSV wants to press high, they better win the second balls in midfield. Last time it looked like we were chasing shadows, and then the transitions killed us. 🔥👀
