Rene van der Gijp and Wim Kieft advise PSV player: 'A really great experience'

Wim Kieft and René van der Gijp both played for PSV in the past and even today still have an opinion about modern football. So too about current PSV player Joey Veerman.

Veerman had a strong season last year and was also named Player of the Year by Voetbal International. Last winter, the midfielder was still close to a move to Fenerbahçe SK and, as is known, the Volendammer can be picked up by PSV for a fixed amount through a transfer clause.

Despite this, there is still nothing concrete happening around PSV’s number 23, who has been wearing the red-and-white shirt since the winter of 2022. Van der Gijp and Kieft believe the midfielder deserves a nice move.

Veerman is meanwhile busy with PSV preparing for the 2026/2027 season, and that is also not escaped Kieft. ''I saw another friendly of that PSV. Somewhere on a training pitch and then I saw Veerman walking around again. I think it’s probably best if PSV lets Veerman move to another club. Not because he isn’t good enough, but that guy has been waiting for a transfer like this for years. Something challenging,'' says the former striker in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp.

Then Van der Gijp names a number of clubs where the midfielder could really do well. ''Imagine a guy like that could go to Sporting CP, or to Fenerbahçe, or to Galatasaray. That’s surely a great experience for a kid like that. Now you’re going to play against Excelsior again, so you wouldn’t be happy about that, would you'', said Gijp.
