PSV player opens the court in Suriname

1 min read

Two years ago, PSV player Sergiño Dest opened a mini-football pitch in his old residential neighborhood in Almere, and now the right-back is doing the same in the Surinamese capital Paramaribo. Friday’s official opening was on the agenda.

In conversation with PSV watcher Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad, the American spoke out about the opening on the pitch. ''I want to give something back to Suriname. For me, football is about football—about enjoying it, good energy, and being together'', Dest said to Elfrink.

Although Dest is half American, both of his parents were born in Suriname and therefore the American international has a warm bond with that country. Coming summer, the right back will take part with Team USA at the World Cup, which is being organized in part in his home country.

Defending set pieces have to be tightened. PSV looked a bit jittery in the box, and one sloppy header wouldve been a disaster. Still think this team can suffocate them, but only if the line stays brave.

🔥🔥🔥 That 1-0 feeling is dangerous, but if you keep the chances coming its pure cinema. Also Cody looked so sharp when he turns on that first touch.

🔥🔥 Also, the way they talk about the wingers creating chances sounds right up our alley. If those crosses start landing, we are cooking, no cap. ⚽️

"We need more control in midfield" honestly feels spot on. Till was busy, but it was more chasing than dictating play. Put one more body in there and the game becomes so much calmer.

Tbh the midfield balance looked off, especially when the fullbacks stepped up. PSV cant leave the half-space that open if the opponent has any pace. Still, the intensity was there.

Eens. If the midfield gets that quicker release, the wings can turn and run. Goated midfield spacing pls, im tired of PSV playing safe and slow ⚽💯

Tbh im not convinced by the new game plan. Quote in the article about pressing sounds nice, but when we dont win the second ball we look clueless. Need better timing from the 8, otherwise this is gonna be long nights.

That quote about pressing triggers is exactly what im worried about. When PSV go too early, the ball gets pinned at the back and suddenly your 2nd ball quality decides everything. Make it smarter, then it becomes fire 🔥

"PSV Inside" sounds hype but tbh i want more clarity on the rotation. If Xavi Simons is not nailed to start every big game, you can feel it in the tempo and the final pass. Also, keeping Dumfries locked forward only works if the right-back support is consistent.

I dont get the praise for the back post stuff. The service looks good for 1-2 chances, then everyone watches the ball like training cones. Fix the runners and PSV win easier.

If PSV actually go with that midfield shape, itll finally fix the buildup. But i still worry about the fullbacks getting caught too high. Lets see if they punish those spaces early.

If PSV are actually going with that high press again, im here for it. But if Malen or Til lose those first duels, it turns into chaos way too fast. Need discipline in the midfield, not just vibes.

If PSV are really going with that high line, i swear teams like Ajax or Feyenoord will slice them open on the transition. Lets see if Sangare and Veerman can cover those half-spaces like the article suggests. 👀
