PSV paid millions | Does ‘superfan’ Perez exaggerate about a surprisingly great PSV player? ‘Worthy of the Premier League’

1 min read

Next summer, PSV is expected to have a busy transfer summer, with a number of key players who may be departing. Think, for example, of Ismael Saibari, Ricardo Pepi, Joey Veerman, and Sergino Dest.

Several players from Peter Bosz's squad are also being linked to the Premier League. Still, the question remains: which footballers from the current PSV could meet the level of the English top competition? A surprising name comes up—surprising because very few had heard of him before his transfer to PSV.

ESPN analyst Kenneth Perez thinks he knows who at PSV could make an impression in England. ''Dennis Man, I think. But I’m also one of the few people who is really a huge fan of Dennis Man. He has something physical and about speed. Ivan Perisic isn’t going anymore, but Ismael Saibari and Dennis Man will,'' the Danish analyst says in the program Voetbalpraat on ESPN.

Does the Danish analyst here actually exaggerate? No, actually not, because Man really is indeed a top player. PSV paid more than eight million euros to Parma, but the investment proves to be very much worth it after his first season.

Perez is of the opinion that with a transfer to the Premier League you should mainly look at the physical side of a footballer and the analyst therefore thinks that the Romanian winger is suitable for England. ''Actually, you should look at the physical side. Who is physically the strongest. Ricardo Pepi could also still be possible,'' said Perez.

Afterwards, journalist Tijmen van Wissing joins the discussion. "Bart van Rooij could go to the Premier League in winter. Although that was, well, to a degrading one: Wolverhampton Wanderers", Van Wissing said.

We can talk about tactics all day, but im more worried about the build-up under pressure. When the fullback is forced wide, the options in the middle disappear. Fix that and the team looks like a title contender again, but right now it feels a bit mid at times 💀

You wrote that PSV want to play through the half spaces, and i agree, but not at the cost of leaving space behind. If the midfield shifts late again, the opponent will punish it. 🤬

Goal threat looks solid but defense on transitions is mid. If we concede early again, the whole gameplan falls apart. Need a DM who actually screens that space, not just vibes. 💀

Does anyone else think the winger keeps drifting inside too much? It clogs the channel for our overlap and slows down the counter. Idk, maybe that is tactical instruction, but it feels predictable.

We need that finishing to match the chances created. Been too many 'almost' games this season, and it always feels like nerves at the end. 💀⚽

That move about the pressing triggers is spot on, but the execution has to be cleaner. When we jump too early, the ball gets played through and then it is chaos in transition. 👀

"PSV Inside" talking about the press, but tbh i still see us chasing shadows sometimes. Ngl, the back line looks calm until the first turnover, then it becomes scramble mode. Fix the first pass under pressure and we look a lot scarier. 🔥

I am not fully convinced by that rotation talk. If you pull the same chemistry too early, we lose control in the last 20 minutes. Tbh, i would stick with the back four unless they look gassed.

"PSV Inside" mentioning the pressing triggers is spot on, but the execution is what decides it. Idk how we are supposed to win those second balls if the wingers dont track the inside runner. Need more work rate from the front three, otherwise it gets easily pinned back.

If PSV really go with that 4-2-3-1 again, the midfield balance has to be spot on. I keep thinking they will overexpose the half-space when the fullback steps up. Still, if the No. 8 presses like the article says, that can turn into a nasty advantage fast 🔥👀

If PSV keep this intensity on the press, we are going to bully teams. Sangaré doing the dirty work in midfield is huge, but i still want more risk from the fullbacks in possession. 🔥

If PSV really wants to play like the article suggests, that midfield spacing is going to decide everything. Gut feeling, if Tillman doesnt get those half-turns, the build-up will get stuck. Need more tempo, not just possession. 👀
