Former international points to Peter Bosz
1 min readPeter Bosz has meanwhile started the 2026/2027 season with PSV. Nevertheless, the name of Bosz is also mentioned by football fans and analysts as Ronald Koeman’s successor as head coach of the Netherlands national team.
Koeman announced last week that he would stop as national team coach after being eliminated at the World Cup. As a result, the KNVB has to look for a new national team coach, and according to Sky Sports Deutschland there have already been talks with Arne Slot.
Former international Khalid Boulahrouz, nowadays a pundit for Ziggo Sport, expects a breath of fresh air for the Netherlands national team with a new national team coach. The former defender says this in an interview with Voetbal International.
''It will mainly depend on the new national team coach how much will be selected again. And then I still wonder whether that will involve many players. I mean, if Virgil van Dijk simply keeps his starting spot at Liverpool, then there is no reason not to call him up for the Netherlands'', Boulahrouz opens the conversation on VI.

According to the former international, there will also be new young players joining the squad. ''But I expect that, in any case, some young boys will be added to the squad. First of all, I think of Kees Smit. This kind of player was missing from Oranje against Morocco in midfield. Someone who can easily turn away from his opponent and bring depth into his actions. A bit lower on the pitch, Frenkie can do that too, but he is often pinned down by opponents. It would be good if you had another kind of player like that in midfield. And I want to emphasize that with Smit there still needs to be an extra helping on top. But the potential is there for him'', the analyst continues.
Despite the possible talks with Slot, Boulahrouz still sees Peter Bosz as the ideal national team coach. ''I would find Peter Bosz the ideal new national team coach. His attacking style of play fits with Oranje. Then I see the game from the 1998 World Cup, the 2000 European Championship, the group stage of the 2008 European Championship. Bosz proves that he can combine extremely attacking football with results. With the excellent defenders that Oranje has, Bosz should be able to forge that into a strong whole'', said the former defender.
