Lawyer can’t be broken in Curaçao anymore: ‘Forever one of us’

For Curaçao, Thursday evening at 10 p.m. the last group match in Group E is on the schedule. In Philadelphia, the team coached by national coach Dick Advocaat, with among others PSV player Armando Obispo, takes on Côte d'Ivoire.

After a historic point for The Blue Wave against Ecuador (0-0) last weekend, the island still has a chance of a place in the next round. With a victory over Ivory Coast and a win or draw for Germany against Ecuador, Curaçao is guaranteed second place behind Die Mannschaft

On the island, Advocaat can at least not be broken anymore. Neither is it the case for football journalist Carl Ruiter, one of the two football reporters from Curaçao. 

''It is incredible what we are allowed to experience as Curaçao. This applies to all Antilleans on Curaçao, everywhere in the world, for the players, but also for me as a football journalist. It’s great, although I did have to get used to FIFA for a moment, though. Those people are strict,'' says Ruiter in conversation with Voetbal International.

After the match against Ecuador, Ruiter spoke to Advocaat. ''Normally I always listen to Mr. Advocaat, but now I took the floor and told him: 'You are for ever one of us, Dick, for ever a true Curaçaoan.' His emotions run through everything. At the goal, during the national anthem, in the match against Ecuador. It's sincere, he feels it. You only see that in residents of our island. As Curaçaoans, we feel it in him too. Mr. Advocaat can remain our national coach forever'', the journalist said.
