Should Oranje rotate against Tunisia and put Guus Til in the starting lineup?: ‘Players who think more offensively’

1 min read

After a 5-1 victory over Sweden, the Dutch national team will play Friday night at 1 a.m. the final group match against already eliminated Tunisia in Kansas City. At the same time, Japan and Sweden—ranked 2 and 3 in Group F—kick off, and normally Oranje would be certain of finishing first in the group with a win.

In the match against Sweden, Guus Til played his first minutes at a World Cup. After an hour of play, the PSV player came on for Tijani Reijnders.

Analyst Theo Janssen is of the opinion that the Netherlands in the match against Tunisia should field the starting lineup as much as possible and not make too many changes. ''I would choose consistency. Put out the same players as much as possible. The full focus must be on winning the group, because in that case the next part of the schedule will be more favorable. With less traveling and probably more favorable opponents'', Janssen tells Voetbal International in an interview.

Still, the analyst would choose to make a change in midfield. “The only one I would take extra account of is Frenkie de Jong, because he has some physical complaints. For that reason, you could put him on the bench,” continues the former football player.

According to Janssen, Til should still have a starting spot in Oranje. ''But otherwise the same starting lineup, although I still believe that we can play better on the number-10 position with Guus Til or Justin Kluivert. Players who think more offensively,'' the analyst continues his story.

In addition, the former midfielder advises the national team coach to give players a rest when there is a comfortable lead. ''In any case, Koeman can make some great substitutions against Tunisia with a good lead at halftime. I really believe in the principle that, as a team, you can grow during the tournament. Especially when you look at this Oranje. The current starting lineup still has plenty of room to develop. That will probably have to be the case too, otherwise they’ll be sent home early,'' said Janssen.

Tbh i liked the winger movement, it dragged their fullback out and created lanes. Still, the finishing felt a bit mid, we missed too many easy chances in the box. PSV should be ruthless at home, especially against teams that sit deep. 💀⚽

"more control in the middle" yeahhh, but i want to see it without slowing everything down. If Sangare isnt screening properly, Gakpo ends up doing defensive work and thats not his best role. Improve the 2nd phase of the press and im happy. 👀🔥

If we really played like the article says, with that intensity on the press, that explains why the build-up looked so sharp. But im still worried about transitions, because one counter and our midfield is suddenly too open. Need that defensive cover to stay consistent.
