Former PSV target clear: “The best feeling”
1 min readIn recent months, Ruud Nijstad of FC Twente has been clearly in the spotlight of PSV. Besides PSV, among others, Eintracht Frankfurt was also interested in taking Nijstad from FC Twente.
Nevertheless, the young defender decided to extend his contract at the Grolsch Veste despite interest from home and abroad. Speaking with Voetbal International, the center-back explains why he has decided to stay in Enschede longer.
''About Frankfurt I said as the first: No, that won’t be it now. That was two days before I signed on'', the defender begins in VI.
After that, Nijstad goes into PSV's interest. ''So it was still between PSV and Twente. I spoke with Peter Bosz, by phone. Very good conversation, a very nice man'', Nijstad continues.
Also thanks to the phone call, the defender remained unsure, but nonetheless he decided to put his signature under a longer stay in Enschede. ''Twente gave me the best feeling. I want to play well this season, and then we’ll see what happens next. Maybe I’ll stay here for another two or three years. Now isn’t the right time to take a step, I think. I’ve only played for half a year'', said Nijstad.

The "best feeling" quote is honest, but the timeline matters. If he joined PSV talks while he was still unsure, PSV missing the final push is on the club. Nijstad saying he might stay 2-3 years means we should stop expecting a quick answer. 👀

I get it. Speaking with Peter Bosz and getting that trust is huge. Still, PSV should learn from this, because we cannot be in a situation where the player hears the right phone call and we lose it.
"Twente gaf me het beste gevoel" klinkt zo herkenbaar... En idd, with only half a season in the legs, he probably wants minutes before a step. Wat PSV nu? doorpakken met another CB of blijven hopen.
