Former PSV striker also delighted with the call-up: ‘You can naturally have it in you really well’
1 min readIt will almost certainly have escaped no one in the Netherlands that national team coach Ronald Koeman on Wednesday announced his World Cup squad for the Netherlands national team. In doing so, the national team coach made room for PSV player Guus Til.
Til made a name for himself at PSV this season mainly as an opportunity striker. The attacking midfielder scored fourteen goals and provided five assists in 29 league matches.
Because of this, Til managed to convince the national team coach enough to go along to the World Cup in North America. Where Ziggo Sport analyst Theo Janssen previously spoke positively about the midfielder’s call-up, former PSV striker Wim Kieft is also happy about Til being selected.
This tells Kieft in the podcast KieftJansenEgmondGijp. ''You can certainly make good use of that guy, because he really runs himself into the ground. If you really need to put pressure on when you’re behind, then you can have him with you'', says the Amsterdam-born man in the podcast.
''Til won’t put him into the starting lineup in rush hour, the national coach. Although of course he’d still want to keep on, if that’s what’s needed,'' says writer Michel van Egmond with a laugh, to which Kieft responds: ''But Til is also not a striker. That naturally worked well with Ismael Saibari, but they swapped roles with each other a lot.''

Kieft zegt terecht "Til is ook geen spits", en toch lijkt Koeman hem te willen gebruiken voor druk zetten. Dat kan werken, maar dan moet je wel spelers hebben die zijn acties opvangen. Anders word je gewoon leeggelopen. 💀
14 goals en 5 assists in 29 wedstrijden is gewoon bizar voor een gelegenheidsspits. Maar ik ben benieuwd of Koeman hem echt gaat gebruiken als impact-sub, want je ziet bij PSV dat hij vooral waarde heeft met ruimte. 👀
Til als gelegenheidsspits is precies waar hij impact heeft, en Kieft zegt het ook netjes: hij loopt zich helemaal het schompes. Als Nederland achter komt te staan dan heb je snelheid en pressing nodig, niet alleen een statische spits. 🔥
Guus Til met 14 goals en 5 assists in 29 wedstrijden is gewoon waarde, als Koeman slim blijft. Eerlijk, ik zie hem meer als outlet en loopjesvreter dan als echte 9. 👀
Til is echt een werkinstrument, die blijft maar lopen tot je moe wordt. Niet per se je "startende spits", maar wél iemand die verschil maakt bij achterstand. ❤️⚽
Tbh die cijfers kloppen wel, 14 goals en 5 assists als gelegenheidsspits is gewoon lekker. Als Koeman hem meeneemt voor die momenten waarop je extra druk moet zetten, dan snap ik het.
tbh 14 goals en 5 assists in 29 games is niet "toevallig" he. En Koeman gebruikt hem niet als pure spits, logisch, want Til is meer runner/drukzetter. Toch vraag ik me af of hij genoeg kwaliteit heeft in clutch moments op WK-niveau. 👀
Til als gelegenheidsspits lijkt me echt een slimme Koeman-keuze. Kieft zegt niet voor niets dat hij "zich helemaal het schompes" loopt, dat is precies wat je nodig hebt als je moet oplopen.🔥
Guus Til voor de WK-selectie snap ik wel. Kieft zei het raak, hij loopt zich echt kapot en is precies zo'n jongen die druk kan zetten als je achter staat. 🔥
