Former PSV players react to Sven Mijnans’ arrival: 'A great step'
1 min readWith Sven Mijnans, PSV has secured the first summer signing of the 2026/2027 season. Mijnans arrives for around thirteen million euros from AZ and thereby follows in the footsteps of Ruben van Bommel, who made exactly the same move last year for fifteen million euros.
In the past, Danny Koevermans and Adam Maher also made the switch from AZ to PSV. In response to Sportnieuws.nl, both former PSV players comment on the transfer of Mijnans.
''A Danny Koevermans transfer. If after that he also leaves for Toronto and then closes out his career at FC Utrecht, then we’ll have exactly the same career'', says the former striker with a smile. ''No, without messing about. This is a great step for Mijnans. He has already proven he can reach a very high level, so I do have confidence in that'', said Koevermans.
Also Maher, who is currently without a club, is completely enthusiastic about a transfer from Mijnans to PSV. ''At PSV you are guaranteed to play for the championship. That brings a certain amount of pressure with it, which is simply good to experience. And besides, you play with many quality players, so I think it is a good step for Mijnans,'' the midfielder says.

Besides PSV, there was also interest from Italy in Mijnans. Among others, Como FC and Juventus were interested.
Despite this, the midfielder opts for a transfer to PSV. “It’s often no longer possible for the top clubs, because then they have to reach deep into their pockets. Apparently PSV is willing to pay as much as thirteen million euros and I also think there’s still some resale value in it,” says Koevermans, who believes that the midfielder is an excellent footballer thanks in part to his way of pressing, his off-the-ball runs and his scoring ability. “Then people forget that he is also really good with the ball. He has a certain talent for being able to delay a pass, so he can set someone up even better in front of goal. He thinks very quickly and sees solutions that others don’t see. He’s better than many people realize,” says Koef.
When the physical condition of Mijnans is discussed, statements by Rafael van der Vaart are also brought up. The analyst recently said he doubted the physical condition of PSV’s new signing.
Koevermans is clearly not in agreement with the words of the former midfielder. ''Don’t be mistaken about that. He really isn’t going to be pushed aside easily. Have we seen in European matches that he was easily tripped over? I haven’t seen that. He has also shown himself physically against clubs such as Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and West Ham United. So why would his physical ability not be good enough?… I don’t agree with that. In the Eredivisie he has already shown himself, and that will certainly work out in the Champions League as well,'' the former PSV player said.
