Former PSV player not yet interested in a coaching career: “I’m mainly in the process of discovering things”

As a footballer, Arjen Robben had a glittering career. Via FC Groningen, the former forward came to PSV in 2002 before then making the step to the European top in 2004.

Via Chelsea, the 96-times capped international arrived at Real Madrid in 2007, and in 2009 Robben moved to FC Bayern München. In Munich, the born Bedummer experienced the best time of his career, including eight league titles and winning the Champions League in 2013, where Robben was the match-winner in the final against rival Borussia Dortmund.

In 2019, Robben initially stopped, only to return in the summer of 2020 to his childhood love FC Groningen. Partly due to injury problems, the former forward definitively ended his career in 2021.

Nowadays, Robben is coach of FC Groningen's U14 and is also busy playing paddle tennis. ''That's where I can put my energy and I find it great fun to do'', the former PSV player told Ziggo Sport ahead of the match FC Bayern München - Paris Saint-Germain.

After his time at Der Rekordmeister, Robben decided not to return to the Netherlands right away. ''I have a lot of time for the family and the household. We stayed here for a year on purpose to enjoy the surroundings. That has also been a bit of my motto in recent years: catching up on time you’ve missed. Above all, not too many real obligations,'' continued the former winger.

As a result, Robben is not thinking about a coaching career in professional football at the moment. ''No, that ambition I certainly don't have yet. It's a small journey of development. Next season I’ll move up to the Under 19s, a step higher. I’m mainly in the process of discovering. I don’t know where it will end. I mainly want to stay a bit flexible and have time for other things,'' said the former international.
