Eran Zahavi is still keeping an eye on PSV’s performances and warned an Ajax player: “Old Ajax doesn’t exist.”
1 min readBetween 2020 and 2022, striker Eran Zahavi was under contract with PSV, after which the Israeli returned to Maccabi Tel Aviv FC in his birth country. Zahavi played in two seasons 77 official matches for PSV, in which the attacker scored 38 goals.
Countryman Oscar Gloukh has been a player of Ajax since last season and had a mediocre season in which the midfielder really failed to make his mark. Moreover, the Amsterdam club only qualified for the Conference League qualifying round via the play-offs.
Yet Gloukh has a lot of support from the players’ group. ''It was nice of Berghuis to stand up for me, and he didn’t say anything weird, did he? Last season it was also just a mess with coaches who all wanted to play football differently. He said that we had to do everything we could until the end of the season and that he hoped it would be better after that'', the Israeli tells De Telegraaf.
In addition, the midfielder receives a lot of advice from Zahavi, who says he is still keeping PSV closely in mind. ''Eran has meanwhile stopped playing football, but the contact remains. He advised positively about the Eredivisie last year. He said that the league is very attacking and that you can score lots of goals here and provide assists'', continues the Ajacied.
The former PSV player also included a warning for his fellow countryman. ''He did warn me that old Ajax no longer exists. But he said that if the right coach were to come—maybe even Jordi Cruyff, whom he had met at Maccabi—then things could go back in the right direction. Well, I’m curious,'' said Gloukh.

tbh Gloukh's seizoen was mid, maar je ziet wel dat hij in de groep niet alleen staat. Als Zahavi hem positief adviseert en hij echt goed kijkt naar PSV, dan kunnen ze nog groeien.
Wie weet, misschien is het echt "de juiste trainer" en Jordi Cruijff als rocket fuel voor Ajax. Maar ngl, zolang ze in de opbouw blijven twijfelen gaat dat verhaal niet kloppen. 💀⚽
77 duels, 38 goals tussen 2020-2022 en dan nog steeds PSV-mindset adviseren. Dit is PSG-level fandom maar dan PSV. Als Gloukh slim is neemt ie vooral de discipline mee, niet alleen de quotes.
Gloukh zegt dat het advies van Zahavi hielp en dat Eredivisie "veel aanvallend is" ... tbh dat weten wij ook al. Toch hoop ik dat Ajax het nu omzet in kansen en niet alleen in praatjes, want zonder stempel zie ik ze nog steeds schuiven.
"Het oude Ajax bestaat niet" klinkt als Zahavi die gewoon de druk bij Gloukh probeert te zetten. Wel benieuwd of die selectie nu echt leert van het rommelige seizoen, want als ze weer zo moeizaam beginnen wordt het lastig.
77 duels, 38 goals voor PSV, die man was echt pure rendement. Als hij dan zegt dat Eredivisie aanvallend is en je dus kansen krijgt, dan klopt dat wel.
