English star compared to Ruud Gullit: “I truly found him outstanding”
1 min readIn the summer of 1985, Ruud Gullit came from Feyenoord to PSV, and then in the summer of 1987 made a top transfer to AC Milan. During his time at PSV, Gullit won the league title twice and turned the former libero into a world star.
In 1988, a year after his departure from PSV, Gullit won the 1988 European Championship in West Germany as captain of the Netherlands national team. In the final against the Soviet Union, the former PSV player provided the opening goal.
At the 2026 World Cup, England and Croatia played each other on Wednesday evening. In an entertaining match, the English ultimately won 4-2 against Perisic & co.
After a 2-2 halftime draw, England went back into the lead just after the break via midfield powerhouse and star Jude Bellingham. This also hasn’t escaped the attention of the editors of Studio Oranje, the World Cup podcast by VoetbalPrimeur.

There, Bellingham is even put alongside Gullit. ''I really enjoyed Bellingham a lot. I never saw Gullit play, active then, but I think he is the closest to Ruud Gullit. I really thought he was outstanding'', says former footballer Kaj Ramsteijn.
Subsequently, Ramsteijn goes deeper into the areas in which the Englishman is close to the former PSV player. ''Basically the strength combined with his technique and ability to run. He was really up for it. He also really wanted to have every ball. Bellingham hasn't had his best season so far, but on Wednesday he showed it,'' said the former footballer.
