Earnest Stewart shares news about a PSV player: “That’s nice.”
1 min readAfter a somewhat disappointing World Cup for Ricardo Pepi, where the PSV striker mainly had to rely on substitute appearances, there is a chance that the American will also be a PSV player in the 2026/2027 season. Technical director Earnest Stewart says this to Eindhovens Dagblad.
Pepi left in March for more than 36 million euros on his way to Fulham FC in England, but this transfer was called off. Since the aborted transfer, no clubs have come forward to take the PSV player either.
Now the attacker has told Stewart that he wants to stay at PSV longer. "I haven't spoken to Pepi myself during his vacation yet, but he said somewhere that he wants to stay here," the technical director says.
At PSV, in any case, they are happy that the American forward, who has been playing for PSV since 2023, would want to stay longer. ''That’s great, because he is an excellent striker. In addition, we have with Alassane Pléa a forward who is returning from a serious injury. We will keep his situation under close watch in the coming weeks,'' Stewart continues.
Pepe and Pléa will therefore normally argue with each other to determine who becomes PSV’s first striker in 2026/2027. Myron Boadu, who has traveled with PSV to Germany for training camp, can in principle look for another employer as Stewart has let know.

Myron kan nu beter kijken waar hij past, tbh. Als Pléa terug is en Pepi blijft, dan wordt het voor Boadu een moeilijke rekensom. Hopelijk krijgt hij toch nog kansen, want hij werkt hard.
Als Pepi zegt dat hij wil blijven, dan vind ik dat echt mooi. Fulham ging bijna door maar niks geschoten, dus dan moeten we nu doorpakken met hem als nummer 9.
"Dat is mooi" inderdaad, maar ik hoop wel dat PSV niet te comfortabel wordt. Als Pepi de hele tijd speeltijd via invalbeurten krijgt, blijft dat seizoen alsnog hangen in dezelfde discussie. 1e spits wordt een strijd, en Boadu moet dan niet op goed geluk blijven hopen.
Fulham leek zo goed als rond in maart, maar nu weer geen serieuze biedingen... eerlijk is eerlijk, dan is het logisch dat Pepi perspectief zoekt. Wel benieuwd hoe snel Pléa fit is, want tegen die tijd wil je geen spits missen die meteen rendement maakt.
Als Pepi echt zegt dat hij wil blijven, dan is dat goud. Met Pléa die terugkomt na die zware blessure hebben we eindelijk weer echte concurrentie voorin.
