Contract extension after an outstanding season

1 min read

After an excellent debut season as head coach of Jong PSV, the club’s management has decided to extend Stijn Schaars’ contract as coach of the reserve team through mid-2029. Schaars was promoted last summer from assistant coach to Peter Bosz to head coach of Jong PSV and finished seventh in the Keuken Kampioen Division.

In the summer of 2023, the former midfielder, who among others played for PSV and AZ, was appointed as the new right-hand man when Bosz was named the new head coach as Ruud van Nistelrooij's successor. Before that, Schaars had already held a number of positions within PSV's youth academy.

As an assistant to PSV’s main team, Schaars won the league twice and in the first season also took home the Johan Cruyff Shield. For now, the former midfielder still has no ambition for a follow-up step in his coaching career, as indicated by the current coach of Jong PSV in an interview with De PSV Supporter.

Not gonna lie, if the wing play is the focus, PSV are dangerous. Still, defending transitions is where i always get nervous, especially after set pieces. Fr.

Cody Gakpo looked lively in the article, but i want to see him keep making those inside runs earlier. When he waits a beat, the pass lanes close and it turns into recycling possession. 0-1 real chance and thats it.

"PSV Inside" really hits the point about the game plan. tbh i still think our build-up gets too predictable when the opposition drops deep, and teams start doubling the fullback. Need more variation, not just pace.

If PSV are set up with that kind of intensity, i love it. But the midfield spacing better be right, otherwise they'll get cut open the moment the press is late. 👀

If they really believe the midfield is the key, i wanna see more control from the 8s. The moment we get loose, opponents turn it into a transition party and it gets ugly fast.
