Brothers De Boer point to title race with PSV
1 min readLast season, PSV became Dutch champions with ease and the team coached by Peter Bosz hopes to make a serious attempt at the fourth consecutive national title next season. Still, Frank and Ronald de Boer believe that Ajax will also contend for the league title next season.
Despite a dramatic season for the Amsterdam side, the former players believe that their former employer in 2026/2027 has a chance at the league title and could therefore make things difficult for PSV. They make this known for the cameras of Sportnieuws.
''I think, in any case, that we need to play in Europe. That we hopefully get a nice season and go as far as possible in the Conference League. However much we would have liked to play in the Champions League, that is not the case at the moment. This is about building now. You actually have to see it as a two- or three-year process, and then we should judge whether we did it well,'' says Frank to Sportnieuws.
The former captain of the Netherlands national team is also full of praise for the work Jordi Cruijff is doing as technical director and, partly thanks to that, sees the capital club competing for the league title next season as well. ''I think Ajax should always go for the championship. Ajax, I think, also has the resources for that, so I hope that this year at least we will be fighting for the title and that it doesn't become such a big gap as it did last season,'' said Frank, referring to the fact that PSV became the earliest-ever league champion on 5 April and ultimately finished with nineteen points more than number 2 Feyenoord.
Ronald agrees with Frank’s words. ''They have also expressed that ambition, that they are going for the championship. I think that’s only a good thing; it belongs with Ajax. But they’re busy,'' as Ronald tells it.
The former midfield player is also a strong supporter of naming Míchel as the new coach. ''He is really a man with an idea. You can see the coach's hand in it, and that suits me. You also need the players, and they are busy with that. I hope that the puzzle will fall into place. I do have confidence in it,'' Ronald said.

"Ik hoop dat we dit jaar in ieder geval om de titel gaan strijden" klinkt goed, maar we weten allemaal wat er op het spel staat. Als Ajax "drukt bezig" is, moeten ze het ook meteen laten zien tegen ons. Zeg maar gewoon: geen Conference-gedoe, gewoon de titel pakken. w
Ronald over "Míchel is echt een man met een idee" ... oké, maar PSV is ook niet stil bezig. Hetzelfde materiaal kan bij Ajax wel beter lopen, maar dan nog moet het in NL tegen teams als PSV winbaar zijn. Anders blijft het bij hoop en woorden. 🤡
"Hij is echt een man met een idee"... sure, maar ideeën winnen geen wedstrijden. Eerst zien, vooral hoe Ajax omschakelt en hoe hun defensie druk van PSV verdraagt. Dit seizoen moet gewoon peak zijn, no excuses. 🔥
Tbh die 19 punten voorsprong voelt nu echt als een standaard die we niet mogen vergeten. Frank zegt dat Ajax meestrijdt, oké, maar PSV heeft ook gewoon kwaliteit om het gat niet te laten terugkomen. Als we Europees iets later in toeren moeten schakelen, dan betalen we het wel. 💯
Míchel als nieuwe coach klinkt inderdaad als een plan man, maar ik ben benieuwd hoe snel hij die "puzzel" laat klikken in de Eredivisie. Als Ajax straks met meer structuur komt, moeten wij achterin weer collectief goed staan. ⚽
Frank die zegt Europees moeten spelen en meteen daarna "1-2-3 jaar traject". Ja maar we hebben dit seizoen toch gewoon de kwaliteit. PSV heeft die Titel-rails, Feyenoord wordt pas gevaarlijk als PSV punten laat liggen. 👀

Conference League is prima, maar als we weer "opbouwen" blijven roepen, dan voelt het net als een seizoen lang wachten. Cruijff heeft volgens mij echt tempo in Ajax zitten, maar PSV moet gewoon snel scherp zijn in de grote wedstrijden.
Conference League is prima om te bouwen, maar ik snap t risico wel. Als Cruijff Ajax op de rails krijgt, dan krijgen we misschien weer zo'n competitie waarin je elke domper meteen voelt. Wat mij betreft wel PSV-mentaliteit, titelgevecht vanaf speeldag 1. 🔥
Fair play dat Frank zegt dat Ajax moet meedoen om de titel, maar ik wil die "niet zo'n groot gat"-angst omdraaien. Met 19 punten voorsprong vorig jaar was er geen "puzzeltje" nodig. PSV moet gewoon weer strak zijn in de eerste seizoenshelft.
