Will NEC spend millions against PSV?
1 min readYou can’t immediately picture it—NEC from Nijmegen is going shopping with PSV. Still, that does seem like a realistic scenario, because the club from Nijmegen does have some money to spend this summer, thanks to direct qualification for one of the European tournaments.
NEC will in any case be playing in the Europa League if qualification for the Champions League doesn’t work out. We’ll assume that then, because the Champions League group stage really is a bridge too far for NEC. What does apply, however, is that Marcel Boekhoorn’s club is now considered rich and well-off, because all deficits are simply topped up.
NEC is currently also considering a serious attempt to take over Driouech from PSV. The Moroccan winger is in the interest of several clubs. That is reported by transfer journalist Mounir Boualin of SoccerNews. The reporting is confirmed by Rik Elfrink of Eindhovens Dagblad.
Driouech is not always assured of a starting spot at PSV under Peter Bosz, but this season he proved to be valuable both as a substitute and sometimes as a starter. Thanks in part to his strong performances in the Champions League against European heavyweights like Liverpool and Napoli, the winger is doing well internationally.
In addition to NEC, Boualin says that Wolverhampton Wanderers is also keeping an eye on Driouech’s situation, just like Club Brugge, Royal Antwerp and several Spanish clubs.
Het Eindhovens Dagblad confirms this weekend the reporting by Boualin. The journalist, however, tempers expectations: "There is a lot of interest for Driouech, as Soccernews rightly points out. But concretely at PSV there is still zero. A player with 9 goals and 8 assists this season, in 1,300 minutes. Certainly cannot be sold for nothing and must bring in good money in the event of a transfer. A step to the Dutch sub-top is therefore financially very challenging (transfer fee and salary)," Elfrink writes on X.
Driouech is still tied to the Philips Stadium until mid-2029, which means PSV can demand top price for the 24-year-old attacker, which would require a substantial transfer fee to be put on the table.

"Zoals Soccernews terecht signaleert"... Ja ok, veel interesse. Maar bij PSV nog nul concreet, dat is precies waar ik op hoop. Mocht het toch losbarsten, dan wil ik een transferfee die voelt als business, niet als gunnen.
psv zou echt stom zijn als ze hem te goedkoop laten gaan, met die Champions League hype. Maar ik snap ook Elfrink: subtop transfer is uitdagend, transfersom én salaris. Als suikeroom Boekhoorn toch gaat doorpakken, dan is het gewoon business. 💯
NEC past hem misschien perfect in het systeem, maar wolverhampton, brugge, antwerp en Spaanse clubs... dan wordt het echt een biedingsoorlog. 1.300 minuten voor 9 goals en 8 assists is geen koopje, zeker niet met contract tot 2029. 👀
Naah, subtop to Nederland is financially challenging indeed. Suikeroom Boekhoorn will want a proper return, and if wages are high, PSV should not overpay for a bid war. But losing a player who impressed vs Liverpool and Napoli would hurt.
Wolves, Club Brugge, Antwerp... Iedereen kijkt, maar PSV blijft tot nu toe chill. tbh als PSV hem wil behouden moeten ze gewoon snel duidelijkheid geven, want de interesse gaat toch niet stoppen. En als NEC komt met een bod, dan moeten we niet doen alsof 6,6 miljoen de grens is.
Elfrink zegt het mooi: 1.300 minuten, 9 goals en 8 assists, dus "appeltje-eitje" gaat niet. Ik ben benieuwd wat Boekhoorn wil betalen als NEC echt serieus is, want salaris gaat ook meespelen. Zeker als die subtop het financieel lastig vindt.

Worried but also fair: Elfrink is right, you cant just sell him for peanuts when he has 2029 until. NEC and Wolves may fit him, but PSV needs the money back if hes going to leave, otherwise thats just bad business.
If NEC really want Driouech, bruh that means PSV will lose a rotation option that actually balled out in UCL. 9 goals and 8 assists in 1.300 minutes is not some random stat, but tbh 6.6m ETV sounds like the minimum starting point.
NEC dat ineens "miljoenen" gaat proberen klinkt herkenbaar. Driouech is dit seizoen echt niet alleen een invaller, maar als Bosz hem laat doorpakken is het meteen raak. Als PSV hem laat gaan zonder hoofdprijs snap ik het niet.

tbh als NEC serieus komt, dan gaan ze niet voor 4 miljoen aan de deur bellen. Driouech had toch momenten onder Bosz waar hij echt verschil maakte, maar PSV moet ook gewoon zorgen dat het salaris plaatje klopt.
