“KNVB will regret not checking with Bosz” | But Valentijn Driessen says: “KNVB isn’t into Bosz”
1 min readThe succession of Ronald Koeman has become a topic both nationally and internationally. Worldwide, media are covering the Koeman affair, who has meanwhile stepped down as head coach of the Netherlands national team. The name of Peter Bosz is also mentioned frequently, including in foreign media.
The Netherlands national team and Ronald Koeman are taking a lot of criticism. Also in Belgium. Marc Degryse, former player for Club Brugge, Anderlecht and PSV, sweeps the floor with the style of play of Oranje against Morocco in the round of sixteen of the World Cup. Koeman gets plenty of criticism as well.
"Netherlands presented themselves against Morocco as a small bunch," Degryse begins his account in Het Laatste Nieuws. The 63-times capped Belgian international doesn’t understand that Koeman let his team play so defensively. "Oranje went down in a very painful way. Painful for Koeman and for Dutch football as a whole."
Valentijn Driessen has his own thoughts on the matter by now. “Cruyff turns over in his grave; Oranje will regret not having consulted Bosz,” sounds from abroad. “Bizarre: Johan Cruyff turns over in his grave,” analysts in Spain say.

"I find it bizarre that Koeman made the same mistake as in the first group match of Oranje against Japan. Back then, too, he made the opponent far too big.", Degryse continues. "After that, he did choose the Dutch school against Sweden and Tunisia. Now Koeman has let the Netherlands play as a small team. Johan Cruijff will turn in his grave."
Degryse emphasizes that Oranje has been "on the football map since the seventies for his offensive and adventurous style of play." He saw that Koeman threw that away completely against Morocco and also only intervened very late. "It cannot be otherwise than that he is sacrificed," is the verdict. It’s not just Koeman who is the scapegoat. "In my view, Virgil van Dijk went under along with Koeman. Van Dijk’s great quality is heading, but he did allow Issa Diop in minute 91 to score the equalizer with his head. He also didn’t want to take a penalty. Then you dodge your responsibility."
'The Netherlands will regret that they didn't ask Bosz'
"No, this dismissal is simply a loss of face for Van Dijk, Koeman and for Dutch football as a whole", Degryse said, who believes that several Dutch coaches were sitting there clenching their teeth in front of the TV. "They will regret not having approached Peter Bosz earlier. He is a coach who relies on his own strengths."
"How he had PSV play in the past few years, in the style of Bayern, Barcelona and PSG, that was great to watch. Bosz wants to score more goals than the opponent. That fits perfectly with Oranje. Bosz would have been the great rescuer, but he has already extended his contract with PSV", said the former PSV player, who surprisingly enough does not receive any approval from Valentijn Driessen. Driessen even thinks he knows that the KNVB is not at all interested in Peter Bosz. 'Otherwise they would have already reached out to him,' Driessen believes. 'The KNVB just doesn't seem to be interested in Peter Bosz,' goes the analysis of the critic from De Telegraaf.

"De KNVB ziet het gewoon niet zitten in Peter Bosz"... ok but it feels more like they fear the risk. Bosz ball is not defensive safety-first, it demands belief. If they wanted predictable football, they already picked the wrong style.
tbh ik snap de kritiek op koeman wel, maar de bosz hype gaat veel te ver... toch? als je ziet hoe psv voetbalde, dan voelt die "grote redder" wel logisch.
If Cruijff was watching, fair play, but i think Oranje fans just want a coach that dares. Bosz at PSV gave us that Bayern/Barca/Psg vibe, forward-thinking and aggressive. KNVB missing out is actually a wild missed call.
