These PSV players will be in action at the World Cup on Thursday

1 min read

The World Cup is now at the round of sixteen, where the Netherlands have already been eliminated thanks to Morocco, with the efforts of Ismael Saibari and Anass Salah-Eddine. In this round, the necessary PSV players are still represented, and PSVInside.nl explains exactly which players will be in action on Thursday night and Thursday evening.

At 2 a.m. Dutch time, Team USA takes on Bosnia and Herzegovina with Sergino Dest and Ricardo Pepi, against Esmir Bajraktarevic. For Bajraktarevic, it’s a special match-up since the winger was born in the United States and also made his debut for that country’s national team in 2024.

Nevertheless, the PSV player knew he would play for Bosnia and Herzegovina because of his family history during the war in the former Yugoslavia. The match between Team USA and the Balkan country begins at 2 a.m. Dutch time and is played in San Francisco.

At 9 p.m. Dutch time, the match Spain - Austria is on the schedule. The Austrians, with PSV player Paul Wanner, managed to qualify for the next round on the very last moment on Sunday night after a spectacular 3-3 draw against Algeria.

In the 94th minute, Riyad Mahrez appeared to have been acting on behalf of Algeria to ensure a 3-2 victory, which would have seen Austria eliminated on the basis of goal difference at the expense of Iran, who drew 1-1 in their final group match against Egypt and then saw a goal ruled out for offside in stoppage time. In the 96th minute, however, the unthinkable happened in Kansas City.

A cross from the left side by Marcel Sabitzer was headed back by Michael Gregoritsch for substitute Sasa Kalajdzic. Kalajdzic had been brought on just after the 3-2 for former PSV player Phillipp Mwene and, with his first touch, the forward headed in the 3-3 against the netting, enabling the Alpine country to qualify for the next round after all and causing an outburst of joy among Austrian reporters.

Kalajdzic ingevallen, eerste balcontact goal.
