PSV talent heads to Germany
1 min readNicolas Verkooijen is on the verge of swapping PSV for the German SV Darmstadt, which plays in the 2. Bundesliga. Both Eindhovens Dagblad and Sky Sports Deutschland are reporting this news.
Verkooijen made his debut this season under coach Peter Bosz in PSV’s first team. Bosz therefore would also have liked to see the Belgian stay at PSV for longer.
Despite this, Verkooijen is offered extended stay in Eindhoven. Next week, the Belgian will be assessed by the German club.
Besides Darmstadt, it was reportedly also Eredivisie clubs Sparta Rotterdam and FC Utrecht that were interested in the young Belgian. The Austrian club Sturm Graz would also have liked to take Verkooijen over.
This season, Verkooijen was mainly active on behalf of Jong PSV under Stijn Schaars. In 28 league matches, the midfielder scored eight times.

8 goals in 28 voor Jong PSV klinkt best goed, maar ik wil zien of hij het niveau echt kan vertalen. Sparta of Utrecht erbij als opties zegt ook dat er vraag is, dus Darmstadt is niet ineens een downgrade... maar tbh het blijft PSV-talent dat we kwijtraken.
Volgens mij was dit al in de maak. Dat Bosz hem nog wilde houden zegt genoeg, maar als hij een aanbieding afwijst met uitzicht op speeltijd bij Darmstadt, dan is het een slimme stap voor zijn carrière. Hopelijk krijgt Jong PSV intussen weer dezelfde doorstroming.
Damn, ik snap wel dat 2. Bundesliga helpt voor doorontwikkeling, maar toch balen. Onder Bosz zijn debuut maken en dan gelijk vertrekken voelt alsof PSV hem te snel laat gaan.
I get that he wanted first-team minutes, but still... Bosz was the one who finally gave him a debut. Rejecting a longer stay while Sparta and Utrecht were also interested says he didnt feel the plan was clear. Transfer to 2. Bundesliga could be good for him though. ⚽
Lmao dont tell me this is about "development". If SV Darmstadt is the move, then PSV let him go too easy tbh. 8 goals in 28 for Jong is not nothing, but we never really see him explode at Bosz level. 👀
