“PSV icons on display as coach of KRC Genk”

1 min read

At Belgian club KRC Genk, coach Nicky Hayen is clearly in the spotlight of English Burnley FC. As a result, there is a possibility that the coach will continue his coaching career in England.

Because of this, the Belgians are also looking for an alternative in the event that the current coach actually chooses to leave. This news is reported by the newspaper Het Belang van Limburg.

According to that outlet, the club first looks at a possibility to move assistant coach Johan Van Rumst up. In addition, PSV icons Mark van Bommel and Ruud van Nistelrooy would also be in the picture at the Belgian club.

Van Bommel worked earlier in Belgium as coach of Royal Antwerp FC and became national champion with the Antwerp team in 2023. Van Nistelrooy was Ronald Koeman’s assistant national team coach during the World Cup.

In addition to the two former PSV coaches, the names of Carl Hoefkens, coach of NAC Breda, and Karel Geraerts are also mentioned as possible options for the club from Genk. According to Het Belang van Limburg, Sébastien Pocognoli and Alexander Blessin are also options.

If Hayen goes to Burnley, Genk will definitely feel the shake-up. Van Bommel or Van Nistelrooy would be huge for the Belgian league, but man i'd hate to see those PSV names get away again. Still, both have the pedigree, so i can see why Genk is targeting them.
