PSV and Liverpool react, just like the rest of the football world

Enormous support for Cody Gakpo. Gakpo and his girlfriend Noa van der Bij are receiving support worldwide after the news that their baby boy was stillborn. PSV and Liverpool have also issued statements in the meantime.

Many other major European football clubs also show sympathy to the Gakpo family. PSV, OnsOranje and Liverpool share a joint message on Instagram. "Our thoughts are with you, Cody & family" Liverpool also posts an image of Gakpo itself with the text: “Lots of love, strength and support for you and your family, Cody..”

Among others, Atlético Madrid shows on social media its condolences with the Gakpo family, just like Liverpool teammate Hugo Ekitike, Natália Loewe Becker (Alisson Becker’s wife, the Liverpool goalkeeper), and former Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg. In the Netherlands, of course, there is also plenty of support from many football clubs and players.

On behalf of the selection of the Netherlands, Brian Brobbey already expressed all his support. "Everyone is of course thinking of him", said the striker to NOS on Saturday evening. "We already knew it a few days earlier. We’re just trying to be there for him. If he needs us, we’ll be there for him. And if he needs space, then we’ll be there for him as well."

Gakpo came on Saturday evening via Instagram with a message. "This is an incredibly difficult time for our family. We kindly ask for space and privacy. Thank you for your understanding", the winger wrote with a photo on which he and his partner Noa place a hand on the body of the stillborn baby, who has been given the name Elijah Raphael Gakpo.
