Ibrahim Afellay shows his colors ahead of the Netherlands-Morocco clash—and gets a lot of criticism: “WTF?!”

But that’s also because of my own performances. I wasn’t in the Netherlands squad because I’m a nice guy'', explains the former midfielder.
Nevertheless, Afellay will also be okay with it when the Netherlands beats Morocco. ''After the match, I’m happy for the person who wins. You grew up here, but my roots are also there. If you ask me where my heart or preference lies, then I say: Morocco,'' the analyst said.
After that, Ron Jans speaks again about Afellay's choice. "I would have found it strange if you had been playing for the Netherlands. In the end, you also look at where you come from. In that respect, you are an outstanding representative," Jans says.
The former PSV player is glad to hear that. ''I find it nice to hear that from you. There will undoubtedly be people who interpret this in a different way. But fortunately you are a people person,'' Afellay concludes.

Ik snap Ron Jans wel. Uiteindelijk is Afellay tegelijk opgegroeid en Marokkaans, dus het is niet alsof ie "voor de show" kiest. Goed dat hij ook zegt dat ie blij is voor degene die wint, geeft wel klasse.
Ik ben vooral benieuwd hoe NOS dat gaat framen, want sommige gasten draaien het verhaal snel om. Afellay zegt het netjes, maar mensen met een agenda lezen toch alleen wat hun uitkomt.
"Mijn roots liggen in Marokko" en daarna gewoon blijven relativeren, peak 👏. Neder-Marokko wordt dan sowieso een emotioneel potje, dus ik verwacht vuur van beide kanten.
Lol ron Jans die zegt dat Nederland raar zou zijn, bruh... maar tbh ik snap het. Alleen hoop dat dit geen extra druk op Afellay geeft, laat hem lekker analyseren en kijk ons PSV-gevoel mee via het stadion.
Ik vind die nuance met 32 interlands wel sterk: trots op Oranje, maar hart bij Marokko. Als ik eerlijk ben past dat precies bij hoe hij als speler ook altijd nuchter bleef.

Ibrahim die voor Marokko juicht voelt echt logisch, zijn roots en familie daar. Tbf wel grappig dat hij zelfs zegt dat je het niet bij Nederland moet interpreteren alsof hij "een aardige jongen" is.
"Ik zat niet bij het Nederlands elftal omdat ik een aardige jongen ben" 😂 zo moet het. Afellay snapt motivatie, maar tbh: als Noor-ish voetballers keuzes maken dan blijven wij PSV-ers toch wat dubbel voelen.
Nice line from Afellay, "Mijn roots liggen in Marokko" is gewoon eerlijk. Maar toch raar dat ie ook het verlies van Oranje maar "wel kan" dragen, ik wil altijd 100% vibe voor NL... Toch respect hoor.
